Tebow: Fantasy Football

Uncategorized

I ‘m thinking this one might not be one of the more popular cartoons that I’ve posted on this blog. But sometimes I feel the need to be a little more edgy than usual. This is one of those topics that is as debatable as Obama vs. Romney, with perhaps a little more importance. I try to listen to the voices who seem to know a little more about the game of football than I do, which is almost all of you. But the people who have actually played the game claim Tebow will never be more than an average backup in the NFL. We witnessed many a miracle in Denver last year with Tebow at the helm. It’s hard to argue with that. But he remains an unproven commodity at QB and I expect him to fall far back in the pack this season as we see that his skills at the NFL level are indeed limited. What do you think?

  1. I believe that Tim Tebow should be able to find a home in the NFL as a starter. But a team has got to be willing to invest in him as a starter. That means building an offense around him and letting him do what he does best: run an option-style offense. He may never be a hall-of-famer, but he would be able to get teams to the playoffs just as he did for Denver last year. He’s struggling now because they’re trying to make him what he’s not, and that’s a pocket passer. Someone said that you have to be a pocket passer to succeed as a starting QB in the NFL. Fran Tarkenton and Bobby Douglas are examples of scrambling QB’s that had some success running with the ball. Tarkenton even got to the Super Bowl on a couple of occasions.

Let’s not forget that Tebow threw over 80 TD passes for Florida over his last three years as their starting QB. The right option system AND personnel can work in the NFL, in my opinion. You must have a superior defensive unit, as well. He would have done real well in Jacksonville, if he’d wanted to go there. He’s drawn to the multitudes in New York/New Jersey, so the Jets are using them as they believe they can get the most outta him. They will struggle also, because if you put a single truck tire on a home-built go-cart, if it fits, then you can go places, but the traveling is “the pits”. You need to build a truck to make the trip bearable.

Sorry, Drew. I used your blog as a soapbox.

  2. If some team takes the chance with him and gives him the right kind of training and offense to play with, I think he’ll be a good, solid, QB. One of those QB’s who isn’t going to be a major league hall of famer (like Brady/Manning/Elway), but a slightly better than average QB.

The problem is, he’s not going to get that with the Jets. They’re either using him as some kind of PR stunt, or weird experiment, but he can’t grow into his full potential doing nothing but red zone drills.

  3. You failed to mention that many of Tebow’s miracles were from the divine intervention of Denver’s “Bend-Don’t-Break” defense, who were extraordinary at keeping the Broncos in games they didn’t belong in.

However, he has a basic skill set, is a good huddle leader and plays a lucky hand in the clutch. A backup, maybe – but with Tavarius Jackson and Blaine Gabbert heading up NFL offenses, I wouldn’t consign Tebow to the bench completely.

  4. The thing to remember is that Mark Sanchez isn’t exactly the most reliable quarterback either. Tebow will get his chance this season; the question is whether he can capitalize on it.

  5. Good Morning(er)from Omaha,

Timmy has that one thing that can not be taught. He has that will to win that can not be passed on through hard work, practice or film study.

The defense, when it could, kept it close for tebow and the broncp’s to win some of those games last year.

The problem with Tebow is that he is unique in his skills and while its nice to have someone like him on your team most NFL teams don’t have the time or money to install 2 completely different types of offense. In that sense he may be ahead of the curve in the qb evolution. RG3 still throws more often than he tucks and runs. Mike vick gets hurt way too much to really judge his ability anymore.

Tebow will end up being a really good college coach after his NFL career is over. The Jets seemingly don’t know what to do with him and are hanging him over sanchez’s head like the sword of damocles. Foul up and we will put him in…we shall see.

In the meantime I will be watching his progress with the J E T S jets jets jets. Yes I am still a chiefs fan, and still like Peyton’s place with the bronco’s.

God will watch over tebow and steer him where he thinks he is needed. IF not on the football field then someplace else.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene

  6. If Tebow doesn’t become a great quarterback it won’t be for lack of effort. From all I understand he’s done everthing he could to mold himself into an NFL type QB. One thing you can’t knock has been that work ethic of his.

I said this once a while back and I’m concerned it may be true here. No matter how much effort he puts in he’ll never be more than a Kordell Stewart “slash” player. A guy who can play many positions but can’t master one.

    All the best

    Louis
