Not Everyone is Feeling “Super”

Uncategorized

Not everyone is thrilled with the Packers-Steelers Super Bowl match-up. It’s not the BIG market teams that the Networks want to have that push the ratings over the top.. It’s just the Cheeseheads and the Steel workers. I like to think of Green Bay and Pittsburgh as the heart of America. I’m always drawn towards those places in our country that embody a tremendous work ethic. It’s what makes America great. The Grit. The determination to fight for their way of life. It’s one of the reasons I dream of moving to Maine someday. The people of Maine are proud and do what it takes to survive and to maintain and preserve all that they love, all that they stand for. It’s a hard life. But they live it with gusto. So I say bring on the Packers and Steelers. I’m going to wear yellow. That way you’ll have no idea who I’m rooting for.

  1. Dear Drew,

Yeah I’m sure that the networks would have loved to see the teams you mentioned in the Super Bowl. However there are certain things they could still hype up to make this game sound more compelling (for those who think the game isn’t compelling enough)

    1. Ben Roethlisberger: At the beginning of the season he was suspended 4 games. Now he is on the verge of coming out of this season smelling like an angel.

    2. Aaron Rogers: Definatly coming out of the shadow of Brett Farve.

    3. Pittsburgh: Winning 3 Super Bowls in 6 years would be quite impressive.

I could add a joke here about Polomalu’s (hopefully spelled his name right) hair. I almost want to make a joke about his hair giving him his strength like Samson. Not exactly sure how I would phrase that joke though.

Anyway those are my thoughts currently at 4 a.m. monday. Didn’t watch the pro bowl last night. I decided to watch something more fascinating…..pro wrestling (WWE’s Royal Rumble was on PPV)

    All the best,

    Louis

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

wow, someone besides me, watch pro rasslin’. its good to know I am not the only one who didn’t watch the pro bowl.

The big market teams didn’t make it to the big game. Too bad I guess. the game should be, could be a good one. The difference between the steelers and the packers is the difference between an A- and a B+.

A bad bounce here and a mental mistake there could be all it takes to win.

I don’t understand why fox is upset- almost everyone watches the super bowl anyway. If only to see, again, why their team did not win their way into it.

in other news the des moines registers annual great bike ride across Iowa was announced saturday night. It starts in glenwood, about 20 miles south of Omaha and ends in davenport. its seven days and 457 miles of fun. its the 39th time for ragbrai, an iowa tradition!

check it out at Ragbrai.org . If you go on the ride you’ll see 15,000 people on bikes riding across what could be one of the plains prettiest states.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. I think this will be the highest rated SB ever because of these two teams

  4. Go Packers! Lots of fans in Seattle are still upset about the Steelers winning SB XL, courtesy of the refs.

  5. Drew–

I have been drooling over this Superbowl matchup since the two teams were announced. These two teams should give us a game for the ages!

PS. I didn’t watch the Pro Bowl either… the X Games were on. Shaun White was incredible!!!!

  6. the steelers may be in a small market, but with 6 titles their national following has to be at the top of the nfl. I am still disgusted by how many Broncos season ticket holders sold their seats the last time they were in town.

    Go Packers!

  7. I love to hear the enthusiasm everybody has about this upcoming Super Bowl Matchup! I do think it’s going to be a huge game Stanbob could very well be right. This might be it for NFL football for awhile. I got the Saints Super Bowl DVD package featuring four games from late season to tide me through. Take up provisions everyone. Buy a Broncos DVD. Tivo some games off the NFL network. It could be one very long cold off season.

  8. THIS is what makes the NFL great and successful: an economic structure that allows small market teams to succeed. The Steelers and Packers have a combined 9 NFL titles over the last 45 years, while the Brewers and Pirates have a combined 1.

Parity may be a bit of a punching bag for sports pundits, but give me that any day over the “every man for himself” format of baseball where small market teams in the playoffs are celebrated for their rarity. In fact, in the last World Series, San Francisco and Dallas-Fort Worth were discussed as if they were small, exotic towns where air travel was infrequent and impoverished by a small local tax base.

The Chiefs won the NFC West only three years removed from one of their worst seasons ever, while the Royals are practically a AAA team. While the Bengals and Dolphins are capable of engendering hope with high-profile signings, the Reds and Marlins respond to their rare competitive seasons with fire sales. The Ravens have been feared and loathed for a full decade with a powerful defense, while the Orioles routinely get eliminated before Memorial Day.

Socialism may not be the best economic system for a nation, but it works wonders for a sports league.

  9. As the day has gone by I have giving alot of thought to what may go on next season. You know how I feel about Millionairs fighting Billionairs Drew. I have inspired one of your comics about The Almighty Dollar. Lots of people never make it pro, and would kill just to live thier dream to play in the NFL. This is an outrage and disgusting. When Drew Brees stood in the middle of the field I think it was the opening game I was thinking he can put his one finger and, yeah you all know the rest. My point is Im excited for the super bowl and will of course bet. I have many squares for lots of cash and probably choose an over and under. After this game it may change my mind about the NFL and its players who are overpaid and underworked. I am trying to just get back to school and go into the medical field. I have been laid off twice in the last two years from Anthem and need a steady job. Hustling, betting and poker only go so far. Im sick of it and am fed up about players who dont want to play two more games because their MCL is sprained(Jay). Know your role do your job and leave the underpaid public to pay your wages. Frustrated and mixed feelings. Thank God for Beer and Shots to ease my pain for Sunday afternoon. Sick of it Drew> Matty
