Not on My Christmas List

Uncategorized

I don’t know about you but the return of the NBA is NOT on my Christmas list. In fact one way to assure a less than perfect holiday season is to ruin it with an NBA game. Any NBA game. Especially regular season games. I’m dreaming of an NBAless Christmas. That’s what I’d like this year. But it looks as though they will be playing after all. Good for them. Just don’t expect me to watch it. How about you?

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I have not watched an NBA game in years. Not just at christmas but at anytime during the season. I just don’t have any interest in watching them play. I know the senior bowl from shreveport LA will be on television christmas day so thats something I may watch although helping make christmas dinner and spending time with my daughter, her husband and my first grandchild and my son and his wife and their dog. NO there won’t be any NBA in the house this christmas.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. I haven’t watched an NBA game for 15 years and that was only because everyone else was watching it. NBA players seem to act about how they are bigger than the game. I guess both sides figured out nobody cares that they were on strike. I was actually hoping the entire season would be cancelled.

  3. Dear Drew,

The NBA strike is over. My reaction? Doing my best “Droopy” impersonation and say,”You know what? I’m happy……(unenthusiatic) hurray.”

    All the best

  4. Couldn’t disagree more! I’m OK without it, but one of the things I was really looking forward to with this new job is getting to see a few Thunder games! Durant is one of the few players I really geek out over, and two hoops games is a tradition at our house on christmas, like the Winter Classic on New Year’s or the 4th of July with the Rapids.

  5. I’m a little confused by the “Nobody cares” or “Nobody watches” lines. The league has solid attendances and decent TV ratings. If you’re comparing it to Football, then I suppose fewer people “care,” but there are several large cities (Los Angeles, Boston and Miami, not exactly tiny backwaters) where the local team is dominant.

  6. Here in the “small market” town of San Antonio (eighth largest city in terms of population in the U.S., but who’s counting?), we do anticipate the return of the Spurs, as they are our city’s only pro team. When each home game brings in about $1 million in revenue to the city businesses, it’s missed when it’s not there. Plus our team doesn’t have the ego of a Shaq or Charles Barkley or any of the L.A., Miami, New York or Dallas players/owners. Besides, Manu Ginobili (“El Contusion”) is fun to watch.

  7. Drew, did you watch the NBA much before the strike? Probably not. I am very happy that it’s making a return this month!

  8. I could care less about the NBA. I think in defense of Drew, he may not care as much because in Colorado, we have other teams to care for. Some of the smaller market teams that only have the NBA may be more enthusiastic. In Colorado, it’s always going to be Tebow (Broncos) first, Rockies second.

  9. In all honesty I was kind of enjoying not having to sit through a bunch of NBA highlights on Sportscenter. Got to see a lot more hockey and college hoops and to me that was waaaaaaaay more fun to watch
