Randy Moss: No Big Loss

Uncategorized

So Randy Moss announces his “retirement”. Count me among those who saw Randy Moss as not a great receiver, but as a great divider. He was a constant pain to every team he played for, a prima-donna who thought it was always “all about him”. Sure, he is a tremendous talent, but at what cost. I’m not convinced this “retirement” is for real. I think he found out that his value isn’t what he thought it should be and for now he is taking his ball and “retiring” to his room to pout.

Let me know what you think?

  1. When he was good, he was very, very good – one of the best. But, he lost something somewhere, and could never find it again.

  2. Hmmm, where have we heard these famous last words before? The merry-go-round will come around again……

  3. Randy’s going to the Hall, without question – Heck, I think he’s in the conversation for the best ever. His mid and later years will be tarnished by his petulance, but it’s obvious that he’s always had the chase for a ring pestering him. He got close with the Vikings and Patriots, but his demeanor made him poison to any team that was a contender – the offers this time would have him on also-rans, a fate he suffered already in Oakland – which was also the team where he first manifested signs of being a malcontent

It doesn’t come close to excusing his locker room antics, but as an athlete, He’ll join up with Ernie Banks, Ted Williams, Dan Marino and Charles Barkley – All-Time Greats who just couldn’t reach the promised land.

He’s also, indirectly, the reason I’m more tolerant of Chad Ochocinco than most: Chad is certainly not above making a spectacle of himself wherever he goes, but you can’t call him a malignant presence in the huddle, and stuck with some truly awful Bengals teams and always gave an effort. I can see Chad as a much better partner for Brady in New England than Randy ever was.

  4. Good Morning from Omaha,

randy moss had/has tremendous talent and afer 13 years of the abuse that comes from playing in the NFL on ones body has to be considered as well. IN addition, IF he was smart or had good managers who looked after his stash of cash he probably said whats the point.

I remember reading a SI article about randy moss and it was interesting that he had a beautiful house etc and he had a fishing pond built and stocked for himself. It seemed he just loved to fish and get away from things. With the pile of money he made I would hope that Mr Moss doesn’t end up as a headliner on the police blotter somewhere.

While his attitude was bad at times and his ability was always just bubbling under the surface he did what he wanted to do. It doesn’t make it right but if we all had a chance to live out lives our way what would we do?

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene
