BCS Bye-Bye!!!!

Honestly, I think I’m going to miss the BCS. It’s been terrific cartoon fodder for years. But I am glad we are moving into a playoff system that I’m hoping and confident will eventually expand to 8 or 16 teams. It would make every bowl interesting to watch and make the NCAA oodles of money, which, of course, they love! I actually watched a fair amount of Bowl games this year, and, I have to admit, really enjoyed them. A few quick observations and annoyances for me however: 1. For the Love of God, will they please stop with the clown outfits for Bowl games. It’s football, not dancing with the stars! Vince Lombardi would be mortified to see what passes for a football uniform these days. 2. Can we just get back to some kind of decent naming system for bowls so we can at least tell what part of the country the game is hosted in? The Bazooka Bubble Gum Bowl does nothing to help me know where the heck it is played! Please, can we just go back to Fruits and Vegetable names with an occasional seasonal reference like “Sun” or “Holiday” thrown in for good measure! 3. And stop naming them after foods like “Tostitos”. It makes the New Years Resolutions that much harder to keep! 4. Stop stringing the Bowl season out for 40 days and 40 nights unless Noah is involved. It’s annoying to still be watching Ball State play in the Go Daddy Bowl on the 5th of January! Stop it I say! 5. I want to watch bands at halftime. Great marching bands like Stanford and Cal and not those lousy stinking singers like Dierks Bently, who couldn’t sing their way out of a paper bag! We get enough of those people on American Idol already. And puhleeze, can we send those talking heads at halftime back to where they belong: hosting a radio sports talk show, on a station with a REALLY weak signal! 6. Speaking of talking heads, isn’t it time to send Lou Holtz to the Smithsonian about now? He’s old. He’s boring. He’s clueless. And he drives me nuts. Put him out to pasture! Now! 7. If they are going to have sideline reporters and they are all going to be women than I think it’s time to give Kate Upton a chance. Just saying.
