Preseason Plummets

The ridiculousness of the NFL preseason schedule continues to make its mark. The Packers, a preseason Super Bowl contender, lose their star receiver Jordy Nelson for the season because of injury sustained in a meaningless exhibition game. The absurdity and greed behind it all continues to make no sense to me, but then, so much of what the NFL does baffles me. Injuries in the preseason are far too common place. I remember as a kid watching Roger Staubach separate his shoulder during an exhibition game forcing him to sit out a good portion of the 1972 season with the Dallas Cowboys. It made no sense then and it makes no sense now. It’s time to end this madness and shorten the preseason to no more than 2 games. Coaches should know by then who makes the roster and who doesn’t. I’d rather watch a few weeks of sloppy football that counts than to suffer through 4 stupid glorified scrimmages that can have lasting effects on the outcome of the regular season and beyond.
