Bye-Bye Brandon Marshall

Adios Mr. Attitude

OK. My whole opinion on this thing might not quite be the same as yours. But here it is in a nutshell. Anytime you can rid your roster of a selfish poisonous player like Marshall, it’s a good day. A very good day. Would they have liked to get more than a couple of second rounder for him? Yeah. Probably. But with the depth in next weeks draft at wide receiver and having that many more picks to trade around who knows what they do with what they got. But i believe it’s much better than what they had.

Rumor had it that one of the reasons Shanahan was fired was because he told Bowlen his first order of business for the off-season was to boot Brandon Marshall as far away from Denver as possible. Give me 45 guys like Rod Smith and I’ll make the Saints look like romper room. Sound off everyone. This is great pre-draft fodder so leave those comments and I’ll do my best to jump into the conversation. Oh, and I thought it might be fun to repost the poll we took back in March.

Brandon Marshall: Should he stay or should he go?

  1. You said it all, Drew. This is a classic case of addition by subtraction. I’m thrilled that they got two second-rounders for him. I wasn’t expecting as much, to be honest. The team will miss his stats, but I think most of those yards can be replaced.

I live in the KC area, and a couple of Chiefs fans have told me that they are glad he’s gone. They gave me funny looks when I told them I was too.

  2. I thought I hated cutler, this one is worse. Don’t waste a nickle of energy on that freakin jerk(ok its the PG version). Save your energy on a good comic like the rape the Nuggets experienced on last Saturday night leading bad momentum into the playoffs. I thought you were on the good guy side Drew? Just pokin fun. Lol . But serious ignore the problem(marshall) and it will go away to rot in hell like cutlers destiny in chicago.

  3. Great ‘toon and spot on commentary. Sadly, the Brandon Marshall type (egotistical me players like Ocho Cinco and TO) have been the norm in professional sports for too long. Gone are the days when I was growing up, and players recognized that they were grown men, being paid to play a game. Now, they just act like spoiled little brats.

I’m glad Marshall is gone, and am sure the Broncs can get a couple more Rod Smith’s in the draft to replace him.

And honestly, I haven’t met a Bronco fan who isn’t excited about this trade.

  4. I am not Happy about this Trade; the “No player bigger than the team” statement works great in Patriot land But Kyle Orton is not even close to a Tom Brady and draft picks are a gamble and far from a sure thing.

I don’t like how McDaniels operates but until I see the Broncos in the Superbowl again he will not be a favorite of mine.

    So go Broncos

    but McDaniels sucks

  5. Could not agree with you more. Brandon Marshall may have been a good receiver, but any player with an attitude like he had has got to drag the team down. Good luck to Miami in dealing with his ego/attitude. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

  6. Pretty sad when everyone is happy to lose a 100+ catch/season player…

That said… Buh-bye, Brandon. Enjoy your time swimming with the fish…

  7. It’s interesting to me how so many Broncos fans feel this is a good move. I think all of us were a bit fed up with it all. And don’t be surprised if the Broncos use a combination of picks to move up in the Draft.

  8. I totally agree. It doesn’t matter how good a player BM is, when he is a clubhouse cancer. He acted like a model player during the season, because he wanted to have a big contract, but the things, that happened in the last week(s) of the season showed, that he never had Denver on his mind as his next years team. He wanted to leave last summer, but when he saw, that he can’t leave and can’t make JMD jump on his will, he played along, but never really wanted to stay. He got screwed over with the non-CBA season, but at least we got something for him this way.

I think this was the most we could have gotten for him from anywhere, with our two 2. rounders we can get some serious OL help in the draft, either by trading up (for Pouncey or Iupati), or by selecting two OL players there and McClain in the first. We have 6 picks in the first 2 rounds in the next 2 drafts, and if you count in last years 5 picks (and Brady Quinn), we have the makings of a good young team and a great future…

Oh, and the cartoon is great, as usual… 🙂

  9. good morning from Omaha,

I think Josh had better know what he is doing with the picks he has received for this or in the long run this is be like the day the music died.

If BM didn’t want to be in Denver, in spite of the money he was making what does that say about denver.

    Is Miami any better?

The fins have a broken down quarterback, Pennington, and an attitude that matches BM’s. Football is a team sport. Look for the fins to be 8-8 this year. even with marshal.

Josh and brandon xaivier had better make the most of what they get in the draft. Is dez bryant the answer?

    who knows.

the nfl is seemingly looking more and more at character amongst the players. Not players that are characters like ben, santonio, b.m.,

idiots with money end up broke.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  10. Another happy fan to see him go. Surely there are players out there that are good and mature at the same time. Gene, I think it says more about Brandon than Denver. I hope he finds the place that makes him happy and grows up.

  11. I think Miami will be a bad place for someone like Brandon. I’m not sure he’s ready to grow up yet, or for that matter, whether he ever will be. He personifies all that is wrong in sports today. Selfishness, greed and a play when he feels like it attitude.

  12. “Give me 45 guys like Rod Smith”

If that were possible, the Broncos would run a monopoly on the title.

All in all I’m happy with 2 second rounders for Marshall, but there is a side of me that wonders if McD wants to get rid of the rest of our pro-bowl talent in order to get his own guys. Maybe Champ or Clady is next? What does ‘Drew nation’ think about that?

  13. Came across this entry last night. LOVE the cartoon! I’ll def be bookmarking and sending on. I, too, maintain a sports site. Just posted about Marshall going to Miami. Check it out. SUNNY WITH A CHANGE http://wp.me/pCuei-ha

  14. Sometimes you have to make sweeping changes to get the guys who will listen to and follow a new regime. It happens in business all the time. Ryan Clady is or will be soon the premier guy in the NFL at his position. Champ’s getting on in years bu is still the best in the league. I don’t anticipate changes there. Look at the guys that McDaniel’s has cleared out. All guys with attitude problems, unable to act like mature adults. I wouldn’t wantthem in my locker room either.

  15. Patience is a virtue……Josh should be given some time to shape the team, to stamp it as his own, less than two doesn’t seem like enough time to start negatively judging. I so don’t agree with Warren Sapp on many levels, but particularly his take on Cutler, Marshall, and McDaniels. Cutler and Marshall obviously did not like the change in coaching philosophy, time to move on, time for the new coach to get personnel on board with his philosophy. Has Cutler proven that he is the quarterback everyone says he is?

  16. Sherri,

Cutler is a good quarterback but I don’t think he has the work ethic, maturity or desire to play the game at the highest level. I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t care whether he wins or not. For Elway, Montana, and more recently, Drew Brees, winning and excellence are a part of their makeup. It’s who they are. It’s what drives them. Cutler doesn’t have that intangible. And I don’t believe you can coach it. It’s something you’re raised with, even born with. It’s one of the reasons coaches sons often are pretty good players. There is a work ethic ingrained in them from a young age. CU’s Cody Hawkins has come under fire in the last year. It isn’t his work ethic. It’s just that he doesn’t have the physical tools to play at the Big-12 level. But I’ll bet he will make a good coach. I think it’s best to cleanse your team of guys like Cutler and McDaniels. It makes way for better guys who want to win as bad as they want to breathe.
