Well, you know which way I’m leaning. How about you? Could be time for a poll…

Who should the Broncos hire as their next head coach?

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

you have some good ideas- but are putting the cart and the horse in the wrong order.

get a gm to lay out a plan to get the bronco’s to the super bowl within 5 years- have him get a coach

that can work the plan and the bronco’s will be back on their feet.

Any other way just leaves the orange and blue muddled in mediocrity. To give coaches that much power or to find a coach that has all those abilities is almost like finding a diamond in a run off stream.

If bowlen and ellis ( sounds like a law firm) don’t put things together in the right order they’ll have to tear it all down again in 3 years and start over. That leads to more frustration for the fans.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best!

  2. I agree with Gene, hire a GM first, get a solid rebuilding plan in place second, and then go after a seasoned, proven winning coach. Gruden is good, Cowher is better, so long as all parties are on the same page. The Broncos have a lot of young and undeveloped talent as well as a cadre of veteran leaders, all that is needed is a functional front office. Watching them play this season has been painful, to say the least. It’s time to get a game plan in order.

  3. I say maybe a GM, maybe not. Maybe a transfer of football operations to Elway is in order first. Joe Ellis has that call now. Whatever Joe Ellis heard from McDaniels, he liked enough to hire him and give him too much power. It was clearly a bad plan to dismantle a working offense and ignore a failing defense.

I like the idea of Gruden coming, but I keep hearing that Gruden or Cowher would cost way too much money and wouldn’t like working with a GM that has more power. I don’t know much about that, but I do know the franchise can’t afford too slow a recovery and hiring up-and-comers is risky — especially when the team has been completely dismantled and has to start from square 1.

  4. Someone in the office today asked me if I thought this meant another “rebuilding” year. I replied, “No, this requires something along the lines of ‘Extreme Makeover.'”

A good GM is definitely required. And any changes need to be announced quickly, before the few good players we have (Champ Bailey, for one) start jumping ship.

I know he hasn’t had as much success as hoped, but I rather like the idea of Gary Kubiak coming back to Denver. And if we can get Elway in a senior position, perhaps we can turn this love boat around.

  5. You people can’t be serious!!! Can you?!?!?!

Cowher???? What did he *REALLY* ever do? I mean, he won a super bowl, but that was a LOOOOOONG time after he had that team. If Denver wanted to wait, they would have been patient with McDaniels – who will probably win a Super Bowl with his new team (whoever that might be) before Denver is back. Denver has NO TALENT. It will take a LONG time to build up that talent. Was McDaniels a poor judge of talent – maybe, no worse than Shanny though. This team needs to be REBUILT, not repaired. And using some re-tread coach is NOT the answer. Young blood is needed and a LOT of patience. Neither of which will occur in Denver.

Bowlen = the new Al Davis

  6. I like the Elway/Kubiak combination! I will jump on that bandwagon. Call me a sentimentalist, but those two seemed to work well together.
