Fear of Fantasy Football

The Fear Factor
This years fantasy football drafts have an added element of anxiety to them. Last years game Tom Brady injury decimated not only the Patriots, but hundreds of thousands of fantasy teams everywhere. To clarify, I was not among them. I was plenty bad on my own merits. I love this time of year when so many of us are spending a few hours (and some of you out there, many, many hours) prepping for our Fantasy drafts. This fantasy stuff is big business you know. The latest edition of Entrepreneur magazine has an article on the whole thing. Today’s poll is sweet and simple.
Do you play in a fantasy football league?

Haven’t played fantasy football… I think it leave me looking like the guy in the ‘toon for every pick. Seeing some of my co-workers, they look like, act like, and talk like (I assume) the guy in Drew’s toon.
Have a question for anyone who can help… I am playing in a pick ’em league using confidence points based on whether the winning team will beat the point spread. E.g. I need to pick the winner and accurately pick whether the winner will beat the spread.
My problem is I have no idea how to determine whether a given winner is more or less likely to beat the spread. Conversely, I’ve no idea if I pick the upset, how to calculate whether the upset will or even needs to beat the spread. Yeah, I’m 100% clueless on this one, and starting to look like Drew’s fine work above.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Good Morning from Omaha,
I have never played fantasy football. Our son is/was into it but now that he is gainfully employed he may not have all the time he used to have.
How ’bout those bronco’s. Orton didn’t look too bad early on in the game. I am sure it will be on the NFL network for the week. Will probably watch it sometime during the week.
Ca$$el was running for his life against the Vikes, even without two of their best defensive lineman in uniform. After 3 days of practice Farve looked like what he is, a 40 year man that should have stayed on his tractor in Mississippi.
It could be a long season for the AFC Worst. Someone will win the division by default again this year.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

Wow, Drew, that is a picture of me one year ago in the 1st round of the Fraternal Order of the Pigskin draft. Adrian Peterson had gone first off the board, and I had second pick. My gut told me that LT might not have a great year, but there he was. I started to change the pick to Westbrook and then changed back.
This year I go with my gut.
Of course, this year I’ll probably pick 15th and decide that Don Strock is the way to go.
Mike…just guess, you’ll probably do better 😉
I am this man – I chose Brady last year – then he went down. I’m terrified!!
Fantasy football is a blast if your league is made up of the right guys. I’ve been in leagues with a great combo of good people and I’ve been in leagues with a group full of bores that wasn’t much fun. It also helps if you draft wisely. The outcome of your season is about 90% draft, 10% luck. Draft wisely and you will probably do well. Just don’t take a QB too soon!! There are plenty of good QBs available in later rounds…
BTW – The Chiefs made a trade today with Miami for two offensive linemen in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick in 2010. They saw all they needed to see against the Vikings to know they’re in trouble with that line. Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe…
