NFL Lockout: No Hard Feelings
Caption Contest Winning Cartoon will post at Noon
My latest cartoon on ESPN.com. I think this one is pretty much the way I feel in a nutshell. The “hangover” from the Lockout is going to last awhile.
I guess I can actually go out and buy an NFL preview, although they are horribly out of date. The next thing that will be interesting will be Free agency which will resemble the human stampede that happens in malls the day after Thanksgiving. It won’t be pretty. But we do have that to look forward to.
Follow Me
Good Morning from Omaha,
trampled under foot. I think the owners and players are in for an awakening. Dave Krieger in the denver past wrote a column about the forgotten fan and how the leagues would be better off not to forget what put them on this pedestal. From the shows of solidarity at the start of games last season to this silly attention getting lockout it seems they players and owners figure the fans will continue to “tote the note” and keep supporting this madness.
HDTV will gradually erode away at the attendance at games much like the colorado river formed the grand canyon. It won’t be tomorrow or the day after that but the day of reckoning is coming.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
Gene
Dear Drew,
With the end of the lockout I feel like the character “Droopy” who would go (in a bored manner),”You know what folks, I’m happy. hurray!”
Still for what it was the end of the lockout was a pleasant birthday present to me.
All the best,
Louis
P.S. I thought the winner of the latest caption contest was going to be today?
I guess I’m still missing the point: What am I supposed to be upset over? What have we the fans actually suffered?
If you’re mad about the sheer amount of money involved, it is a massive business that, so far, hasn’t resorted to outright theft. In fact, nearly every dollar they receive is voluntary, with the exception of stadium construction (Which is almost always voted on by the people). Sorry, Avarice was never my favorite Deadly Sin – I’m more of a Lust guy.
If you’re mad about the drama of the past five months, then you’ve been paying attention to the wrong things. A rookie wins Daytona, and a kid from Belfast wins the US Open. The girls from Japan and the boys from Boston win their Cups, while LeBron went home with nothing. But the most-covered sports story – including on this blog – has been the Lockout.
If you’re mad about spending Sundays without football, having your Season Ticket deposits come back with no seat to be had, or having a good chunk of the season cancelled, then I’d totally understand…but none of that has happened.
Sorry – I’m just not feeling the rage.
