Orton Hears a Who

It seems as though snow wasn’t the only thing that fell over the weekend. The collective hopes of Broncos nation has taken a complete nosedive in the course of just a few months. From Shanahan to McDaniels. From an All Pro to an Oh No! It’ been a bit like trading in the two Lamborghini’s in the garage for a couple of Vespas. Needless to say this is an off season we all soon won’t forget. But how, oh, how we wish we could.

  1. Drew,

Great pun! In reading about Orton, it seems the one thing he did not bring to Denver is a bag full of drama. Alone that is already an improvement compared to the horse’s patootie.

Over the weekend I saw some articles saying Denver may pick a QB in the draft, possibly trading up to get Sanchez. This simply baffles me. Why take Orton if we are going to draft yet another QB? On the other hand, draft prognosticators seemly come out and randomly “predict” what a team is thinking. With our new coach, new GM, new talent scouts, and an owner whose idea of “hand’s on management” is limited to termination and trading, the Broncos will keep everyone guessing.

This whole debacle still makes me sick. The Broncos do not (or at least did not) do business this way. September can not come soon enough.

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

I have always maintained that MOST quarterbacks of NFL quality will prosper with a good offensive line.

While his numbers in Chicago were not quite those of Cutlers, he didn’t have the TEAM around him that

exists on the offense in Denver.

With the Bronco’s receivers, and O-line Orton should do fine. Heck, even Tyler Thigpen could have prospered with the tools presented to him by the Bronco’s.

Even with the Chiefs line he did, um well.

The Bronco’s need to get a durable running back or 2 to carry the load and basically the offensive players are in place. But who knows what kind of offense the Broncos will be running.

And really the defense is what tripped them up. Hopefully someone can fix that mess they developed last year.

The drama is over and the Bronco’s are seemingly on the right track. Or at least A track, to where, who knows. Only time will tell.

    Bring on the draft.

  3. I’m still confused about this deal. So when the Broncos got two #1’s, did that mean Willie Middlebrooks and Ashley Lelie or Marcus Nash and Jarvis Moss? I’m sure it will be something like that or maybe they will get another franchise qb to trade away.

  4. Terry Bradshaw proved that an average quarterback could be great when surrounded by great players. Denvers offensive line has always been one of the best in the NFL and it should continue to be. The receivers are comming into their own also. All the QB has to do is get the ball to them and we should be fine on offense. None of this will matter if we can’t stop any opponent. Let’s build our defensive line to match our offensive line and things will take care of themselves.

  5. Happy Opening Day!

I can’t complain about Orton. He got my fantasy football team to the championship game last year. 🙂

  6. The difference between Cutler and Orton is.. and this is besides that Cutler has a big arm, is that Orton is a pure pocket passer. He CANNOT move what so ever.

I cannot say it’s completely bad, but our O-Line is still developing and it’s not guarantee that it’ll protect him as they did with Cutler especially from the way he could snake in and out of situations.
