Saints get Smacked

Yet another cartoon summoned from the bullpen after the Jets deal appears to be falling apart. The NFL network has erroneously reported Tebow was headed to Jacksonville. They attributed the news to a twitter account they thought belonged to Tebow which, upon further review doesn’t belong to him at all. THIS is why we can’t lose newspaper reporters but I digress. I’ll stay safe for tonight with this Saints cartoon, although being a Saints fan myself, it hurts. Not as bad as Sean Payton does but you know. I feel kind of like Tebow fans do.

Good morning from Omaha,
yesterday was quite the day wasn’t it. tebow to the jets and obscurity and then the saints. would the penalties have been less severe IF they had not lied to Roger Goodel? we will never know. Its just like with Martha stewart, richard nixon etc- it is not the act but the cover up. The players who threw their own money into the bounty pool have not been dealt with just yet but look for Vilma and several others to be banned for a season, much like Paul Hornug was for gambling back in the early ’60s.
why can’t a feel good story like the saints after katrina stay that way? I have never been a big fan of the saints , even with archie at QB. I guess life will roll on but wouldn’t it be better if the good things about someone or something were remembered without all of lifes shades of gray?
Strive for excellence, nothing but your bests.

shades of gray? The taints blatantly ignored the rules of the game and deliberately tried to cover them up, if anything the penalities should have been more severe. Watching the tainted ones go through the playoffs that year with a virtual free hand soured me to this day on professional football.
What a surprise move by Goodell but I do not think the owners are to happy with him. How dare he “punish” the owners, does he not realize who signs his checks. The “Bounty” players should be very worried because they will most likely will be suspended for the season as well. Goodell is not making any friends with the players or the owners.
The Jets need to learn how to read a contract because the Broncos made Tebow’s contract available to all interested parties which probably explains the Jets dysfunctionality.
Drew–
I wonder what my brother-in-law is thinking about this mess. He’s been a passionate Saints fan for ages now, going back to when they were called “The Ain’ts”. He was over the moon when they won the Superbowl.
I gotta figure that he’s very saddened by all this.

“Morally, the life of the organization must be of exemplary nature. This is one phase where the organization must not have criticism.” ~ Vince Lombardi
Goodell had to do something. It is a sad situation, and a very sad day for the NFL. It isn’t like the commish could have ignored the bounty issue. Blatant injuries for cash (i.e., profit) is immoral and unethical. I don’t care how long it has been going on. The fact that it happens at all, sickens me to no end.
Today, I read that the U.S. Senate is calling investigative hearings to address the matter with the league, and has invited every other professional sports organization to the table. The fact is, that any player who was injured by a player who received financial compensation a la Gregg Williams, could take the league, that player, Gregg Williams and Sean Payton to civil court. Will they? I don’t know. There is such a “brotherhood” among players, that it is hard to tell.
I understand that football is a rough sport. Rules and regulations within the game are continually changing, and finally starting to address player safety. Players and their families are donating players’ brains to research the affects of concussions, hits, and other damage, upon death. More needs to be done. If it isn’t, it could mean the demise of America’s favorite past time (sorry baseball fans), as parents aren’t going to let their kids play, and grow into high school, college, or professional players. That would be a sad day, indeed.
Coach Lombardi must be turning in his grave.
