The Official Tim Tebow Playbook

The Broncos vs. Chiefs game was easily one of the oddest pro football games many of us have ever seen. The Broncos threw only 8 passes and completed only two, but ran the ball consistently well all day despite their best two running backs being sidelined with injuries. Maybe, just maybe, there is something to all of this Tebow magic stuff. The Broncos are 3-1 since he was named the starting quarterback. He may not throw the greatest but, face it, the guy wins. And that is really the only stat that counts.

Dear Drew,
To me football has thrived best when people are willing to do something different. Either last year of the year before the “Wildcat” offense helped Miami to their success. In either the late 70’s or early 80’s it was the Air Coryell show in San Diego with Dan Fouts. Perhaps the Tebow Run option is the next evolution of the game.
In one sense it is quite similar to what the Bronco’s did in their last two years with Elway. By having an effective running game defenses are kept out their longer and longer. By the time the 4th quarter came they’d be sucking wind. Same concept here only to perhaps the 3rd or 4th power.
Another advantage to this “Da Do Run, Run” offense(may the group who did the song “Da Do Ron, Ron forgive me for the parody) is that by running the ball play, after play after play the corners and the safeties have to be even more careful when they blitz because then that would give Tebow an excellent chance to complete a long pass for a TD. How ironic that some of Tebow’s worst passes were to guy’s who were wide open yet his TD pass to Decker had good pass coverage on him yet it hit him in stride. If Tebow can improve on his passing this “Da Do Run, Run” offense could be Frankenstein scary.”
Final thought. I’d rather have the Bronco’s winning ugly than lose pretty.
All the best (hope you had a great weekend)

Good Morning from Omaha,
Great cartoon, Drew. I was at the game yesterday in KC. It was almost funny the way everyone in the stands knew what was coming but couldn’t stop it. That pass to decker might and I mean might be a foreshadowing of things to come as Tim matures.
Yes there was seemingly some times where Tebow seemed confused. the shuttle pass to royals knees is one example. And Tebows ability to throw a “bounce” pass could get him into the NFBA, national football basketball association.
The Chiefs are B-A-D bad. The bronco’s aren’t much better but at least you can see some development in the bronco’s. As the season continues we shall see how Tebow grows and matures. He will either show signs of being the next big thing or hit that glass ceiling of being inept. But it is fun to watch.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

I don’t see this lasting. The Jets are next, and Rex Ryan has made defense his focus, including a treatise on how to stop the spread option. I can easily see him packing eight in the box and double-dog daring Tebow to try to beat Darrelle Revis deep.
I’m not ready to buy a Tebow jersey yet; I’m not completely sold on him as an NFL quarterback. But I have to admit he does lead Orton in one major category: wins. Especially against the Raiders. I will be happy to change my mind if he can get us into a winning percentage season. Anything more is just a juicy bonus.
If you can’t win conventionally, win unconventionally. Can’t throw forward? Throwback. I enjoy that this is basically the offense I ran in many video games. And really, why not enjoy the games for what they are? Don’t worry about when some defensive coordinator figures out to stop it. Just watch.
Too funny, Drew! Thanks for the out loud chuckle. My only complaint about the game and the offense, is please let the option go! I hate it, it was good for one play, against a defense that certainly did not seem up for the game. And I mean like out of bed up. And the Veterans’ drawing was wonderful.
The Boncos have been running the ball well but I do not believe any team can continue to be successful with a one dimensional offense. Ultimately they will have to start adding short passes to keep the defenses off balance. I think their success can be attributed to a good defense, a good running game, and opponents that have not been very good. Lets check the bandwagon after they have played a couple more good teams like Detroit.
Dear Drew (again)
After thinking about this all day the following thought crossed my mind. This is a great system when your tied or if you’re team is ahead by 7 points or more. However I am wondering how this would work if (for the sake of debate in this example) the Bronco’s fell BEHIND a 7 points or more? Would they still run it or rely on passing. Maybe even bring in Orton or Quinn?
Just a thought to run through the minds of everybody
All the best (always)

Relatively funny,.. although from the sound of Tebow’s interview after the game and from well, the Obvious, he wants to throw the ball. Tebow doesn’t call the plays and he isn’t the only play in the development stage. I know we cant live in the past, just a thought but say if that deep ball the Decker had his hands on and dropped was thrown to Lloyd,.. granted the ball wasn’t perfect, but experience counts. He has shown he can hit the short slant pass (hopefully Ball wont bobble the ball this time) which would be a great mix up with the run. It’s almost seeming like he’s being held back in his development.
This sticking with him game by game stuff is on the edge of retarded, and then they wonder why he is jittery in the beginning of games and takes a minute to get into his routine ? …. maybe relieve some of his stress (they part they can control) and say he is the QB for the rest of the season. The coaches attitude toward Tebow is almost like they are just waiting for a rookie to be a rookie and screw up. His Winning percentage is one of the best we’ve had in awhile,… He (knock on wood) doesn’t really turn the ball over and throw interceptions… Go with the guy, get him a legit QB coach and actually just back him at least for the rest of the year, and knock off this minute by minute stuff.
Regards,
~jed.
