Memories of the Moon

Like many of you I have my own memories of the day that man first walked on the Moon. Where I was when those first steps were taken and even more of the craziness that came shortly before and after. Here are some of my favorite memories of that time.

1. The introduction of my favorite toy of all-time: Major Matt Mason, his super cool space crawler, and the even cooler Space Station. I got them for Christmas and was major league disappointed that the space crawler wouldn’t work. I later found out (years later) my dad and my brother had run the batteries down playing with it on Christmas eve.

2. That same Christmas I also got a Saturn 5 Model which, unfortunately, because of the complexity of the thing, never got built. That pretty much ended whatever dreams I had of becoming a rocket scientist. It also ended my belief in Santa Claus because he left the price tag on it (must have been too busy playing with the space crawler).

3. Baskin and Robbins Lunar Cheesecake Ice Cream. And Tang.

4, Those really weird looking tootsie roll things they sold kids as “space food”.

5. Texaco producing these really great cardboard Lunar Landers which I spent hours with in a sandpit close to home.
