Thinking Baseball, it’s almost here

It’s not often I get to do the deserted island thing. I alway liked this drawing. I won’t be doing any fantasy baseball this year. Too many things I need to hustle on to pay the mortgage.

After two years and some change I finally got a definitve answer from the Denver Post about doing any freelance work for them. The answer was clear. No. Not Now. Not Ever. And so it goes. I can’t quite explain why, because, honestly, I don’t know. But I believe things happen for a reason. I really wanted some kind of response because, frankly, I needed closure. I needed to know where they stood. We talked right after the Rocky closed about freelancing for them. But they never really seemed serious about bringing me on board. They did no negotiating at any level, at any time. It’s disappointing, sure, because it would be a good print venue for local cartoons. But it’s simply time to move on. I’m going to pitch to several other places next week in hopes of landing a few more print venues (Philly and Dallas). So many papers have laid off their editorial cartoonists and so the market is tough. But I hafta keep knocking on doors.

I’m thinking about starting to custom design Wordpress sites for people. It can be intimidating to build one even though there are themes available. The cost of building a website is enormous. People usually charge about $5000 to start and well over $50,000 for sites like the one the band Rush uses. I figure if I can offer people the chance to customize their Wordpress site for $1000 or so, I might find some clients.

I promise I’ll get back to the comments when I can. It’s just been a busy time and the Caffeinated Schnauzer we have has been pretty sick. So I’ve a fair amount on my plate.

Thanks for reading everyone. And have a wonderful weekend.
