Big Dogs, Little Dogs
Dispatches from the Drawing Board Today marks 3 years since the Rocky Mountain News stopped the presses. Always a day of remembrance for me and still a bit solemn, yet I can’t help but be proud for the time I spent there and the work that I shared with my fellow comrades in arms. For all of my colleagues, who just like this cartoon illustration, always seemed to kick the ass of the Big Dogs in town, this one is for you! Viva La Rocky! Changes are coming. Today I sign the papers to put my house up for sale. It will take some prep to get the place ready, but it’s time to downsize and sail to new horizons. I’m not quite sure what it means yet. THE BLOG WILL CONTINUE! Nothing changes here at DrewLitton.com. It’s just become a challenge to maintain a mortgage, pay health insurance and navigate the price of living in Denver on a single freelance salary. It comes down to dollars and sense really (pun intended). I’d love to remain in Denver but I’m entertaining thoughts of Austin, Portland, Maine, and Albuquerque, as well. I can’t imagine life without the Broncos, Rockies, Buffs, Rams, Avs or Nuggets so no matter where I end up, I will hopefully be able to keep the clients I have who have allowed me to draw cartoons about the Colorado sports I love since the News closing in 2009. So the next few months will be an adventure. Thoughts and prayers (not to mention job offers) are more than welcome. Today’s cartoon was actually one I did recently for ESPN.com and a great column by Roy Johnson about little dogs in the NCAA tournament. Teams like CU who clobbered Cal last night for instance. There are always the little teams that surprise. For me that would be TWC over Kentucky for the National Title in 1966.
