Abraham Lincoln: Four score and seven years ago…

Uncategorized

I took a few days off during this past holiday weekend. It was great to take a break from what seems sometimes like endless deadlines. I hope you had as great a weekend as I did. I always take time to remember the vets who have done so much for us. My Dad served aboard the U.S.S. Pennsylvania during World War II as a Gunners mate. We owe so much to the brave and valiant men and women of that generation who gave so much in service to America.

I’ve been reading a lot about Abraham Lincoln lately. We took a great trip to D.C. back in April and I prepped myself with several books on Lincoln. I’m reading “Lincoln: Tried by War” right now along with a book called “Skipjack” about the last of the sailing Oystermen of Chesapeake Bay. Anyway this cartoon seemed like a setting to vent my frustration about the length of the NBA playoffs. By the way, this cartoon in no way is meant to disrespect the men who gave their lives for the greatest victory in our nations history; to free those held in the bondage of slavery.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

sounds like you had a great weekend. and yes the NBA season seems to go on forever. There seems to be a lot of rest time built into the schedule. Like the world series, built upon tradition, when the teams traveled by train, never seemingly adjusted to the fact that there are things called airplanes and that you can go from east coast to west coast in just a matter of hours.

From what I have heard they won’t start playing until thursday.

You’ve got to be a real fan to wait until thursday for the championships to start. I am not a real fan, I suppose. The highlights, if I chose to watch them, will be all over espn. I can think of several things I would rather do than watch these guys play.

Love the cartoon, all those pictures of ed asner with honest abe. Its a shame that you have to put that disclaimer on the end of your comments. Its a comic and an editorial thought on the length of the NBA season and has nothing to do with slavery etc, but some people need get a sense of humor and start to enjoy life a little.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene
