Thanks to Scott and Alfred from 104.3 the Fan

A big thanks goes out to Scott Hastings and Alfred Williams for having me on their show this afternoon to talk about www.drewlliton.com, 9News, inDenverTimes, and the future ahead. Be sure to check out their new website at http://www.fm1043thefan.com/ and you can hear the whole interview at http://www.fm1043thefan.com/

Life after the Rocky has been anything but predictable. I’m committed to trying to make this blog work, to building a special community for sports fans and make it so I can earn a living here doing what I love to do. There are challenges ahead, no doubt ,but I’m more excited than ever before to meet those obstacles head on and to reach for the dreams I’ve had since I first set out to be a cartoonist. Thanks also to Lynda Hanshaw for reaching out to me and offering her expertise to help build a business model for all of this. Lynda is an amazingly talented wedding photographer (she shot our wedding in 2006) and you can see her work at http://www.lyndahanshaw.com

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I hate to see any franchise go through the rebuilding process.

the Royals have been rebuilding since 1986. There are better years

where they can win almost half the games and others, like in the past

5 years where they win just about 1/3 of the games and don’t look good

    doing it.

New manager, new general manager, a little more money for players and

a lot of money to refurbish an old stadium ($250 million) and they are still

    the ROYALS.

I hope for the best for the Avalanche, the Rockies, the Bronco’s. Is that about

al the sports franchises in denver going through a rebuilding phase.

And I thought KC had it bad with the Royals and the Chiefs!!!

Oh well, as they say on the radio in kansas city, Welcome to Loserville!!!”

Strive for excellence, Nothing but your best!!!

    Gene

  2. Drew, I agree the AVS have dug themselves a very deep hole. The problem as I see it is, they have 3 good players that make up a #1 Line but all the remaining players are 3rd or 4th line players. What we are missing is a whole second line. With 1 or 2 very good players to anchor that second line some of the young 3rd liners may be able to improve their play enough to play on the second line.

  3. I agree that Giguere needed to step down. The Avs need someone with a better understanding of the tools that are required to improve the organization.

I’m not convinced that Tony Granato is the right man to run the Avs’ bench. But it all has to start with a clear identity, which the Avs don’t have at the moment. A good GM will be able to evaluate what can be done with the current roster and then find a coach who can make that work. The pre-season pronouncement that the Avs would play an up-tempo style of hockey was great – until the actual players took the ice. Throw in shaky goaltending and an injury list almost longer than the night’s roster, and it’s no wonder the team at times looked like it could barely tread water. That made some of the games even more exciting to watch because those efforts were so rare.

  4. Nuggets won the Northwest, forget the crash and burn of the AVS and the supidity of McD, by the way if Peyton Hillis isnt on the roster next season im moving to mexico, lets celebrate the good news.

  5. They aren’t going to get better next either the 3rd pick an not cap space next year..

  6. This is what happens when large corporations run Pro Sports teams. The money comes first!! Winning is second or even third priority.
