Baseball and broken windows

Uncategorized

Sandlot baseball. Now those were the days. Kids on a vacant lot tossing the ball around, smacking it over the fence right into the Grinch of the neighborhoods living room window. That’s the fastest, by the way, any kid will ever run in their entire life. You think Usain Bolt is fast now. You should have seen him after he crashed one into the neighbors beautiful bay windows. So it all got me to thinking, since Albert Pujols seems to be hitting homer after homer,  just which neighbors are going to be sweeping up the glass. And I arrived at this.

The horrific hit that took place in last nights Canucks-Bruins Stanley game sickened me. There simply is no place in any sport for the kind of cheap shot that forced Boston’s Nathan Horton to be carried off on a stretcher. It reminded me of Todd Bertuzzi’s hit years ago on Avalanche player Steve Moore. Until the NHL actually kicks a player out of hockey for life and the guy is found guilty on attempted murder charges we are going to be subjected to nauseating moments like the one last night.

Let me know what you think!

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

and to think the slayor had a shot at albert….and now they have drafted a kid named Bubba…they are talking 7 mill as a signing bonus OR he can go to Lincoln and play football with the huskers….choices choices choices. 18 and the world is your oyster.

Bubba Starling is a real phenom. Good at almost everything he attempts and smart. and he seems to be very well grounded. The only monkey with a wrench is scott boras, his agent. I guess he has until August 15th to decide what he wants to do, but the ball team will NOT want him doing two a days and taking football hits, so the offer had best be huge, to keep him off the field. He will probably, take the money, get an education later, although you are only 18 once.(thank goodness)

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Pujols is amazing right now! Great cartoon, Drew! I’ll be sharing it with a co-worker who is an avid Cardinals fan. She will get a kick out of it.

    Now, on to hockey:

(Pulling out the soapbox.) Since that tragic day when Todd Bertuzzi took out Steve Moore, I’ve always believed that Bertuzzi should be banned from playing in the NHL. He changed Moore’s life, and livelihood, FOREVER – and yet, Bertuzzi is still playing the game. While I LOVE the game of hockey – and I understand that there are going to be hits, checks, and occasional “take the gloves off fights,” during games – hits like the one Bertuzzi completed on Moore, and the one that happened last night, have no place in hockey. Absolutely none. I pray that Nathan Horton will heal from his injuries, with no ill-effect on his life. The league needs to step up and do the right thing, and take the barbarians off the ice. Especially those who change their “victim’s” life forever. (Putting the soapbox away.)
