Get Ready to Rumble

Uncategorized

So sorry I couldn’t get to the comments yesterday. I’ll comment on them later today.

OK. So here’s the deal. I’m really going to try and not “over do” the NFL lockout stuff. We have 4 months until it really gets hairy. But since the deadline is today, well, I felt like this was the way to go. I also have one on ESPN.com later this morning. I’ll post the link when I know it’s up.

I’m tinkering again so forgive me if you notice a few changes here and there.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

Hey I like the changes in the site. Its really clean and easy to follow. You have been busy at the drawing board. I haven’t heard if the deadline has passed…I heard yesterday both side agreed to extend the deadline by 4 hours- hey whats the hurry- what is it they used to say in the old westerns- you don’t run to knife fight.

IF they have the draft, which I have heard they will, it will be a while before they sign these new guys because some of the issues include a rookie salary cap. It is all just a mess.

In the meantime fans have gotten caught in the cross fire and have no way to say stop! Maybe if we ignore them they will go away- as my wife the teacher says- Kids crave attention- good attention, bad attention, it doesn’t matter, kids crave attention. If we let the next 5 months go by and ignore them maybe they will realize that all they are doing is hurting themselves- or NOT.

Thank goodness the weather is getting better so we can all find other outlets for our sports jones.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best!

  2. Good Morning everyone. As you can tell I tinkered around here last night and one thing led to another. The previous them had spacing issues which were making me crazy and the social networking buttons for sharing content were buggy. Feel free to tell me what you think. I just feel like its a cleaner look. I might try the darker color scheme for a day to see what you think of that. I know, I need to stop messing with it. So whats on your mind today?

  3. Gene, Just missed ya. glad you like the look. It’s light and clean. The other one was kind of clunky with all kinds of spacing issues. And I like the header in this one. It feels more “sports” like. I’m going to try and take a bit of a walk today in your honor, sir. Have a great day!

  4. Drew- get out there and get some fresh air and sunshine- it’ll do your mind and body good!

that is the word I was after- sports like- the banner looks good- Websites should be treated like cars- every now and then you need to either wash them clean and add some of that polish to it to make it gleam.

It is supposed to snow here this morning, again- but I have been out and done 12 miles on the bike before it gets here.

Keep your pencils sharp and your ink filled.

  5. Morning Drew,

It is pretty sad when the politicans can come to an “agreement” before the NFL. Either way, I am getting so tired of everyone pointing fingers saying the other group is wrong and NOTHING getting done. Just want my football–so let’s play fair and get it settled.

Ok. rant over, I feel better. cj

PS. I do like the new look, bright and crisp.

  6. At first, I thought that having Don King as the mediator did not fit but after letting it stew a bit, he is right for the job. Since the fans will most likely get shafted by the Owners and Players, it only seems fair that they get the shaft, just ask any fighter Don King has managed.

    I like the cleaner look.

  7. Drew–

I like the new look! As some other folks have said, it’s a very clean & crisp look. Not sure if a darker background would work, though.

As for the NFL, enough already! I’m tired of hearing both them & Charlie Sheen!

  8. Alexandre,

Mrs Doubtfire would be a great moderator. I was trying to think who else I could have put in there. I just had to draw Don King’s hair. It’s good therapy now and then. You can’t really make a mistake when you do it.

    So here’s my list:

Hazel the housekeeper from the TV show in the 60’s, a nun with a ruler, Mrs Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver, and Aunt Bea from the Andy Griffith show. I know, I live in the 60’s.

  9. Felicia,

I totally agree with you. If they want to kill the goose, then let ’em. What really makes me mad is that there are thousands upon thousands of people whose incomes depend on the NFL. Restaurants, concession workers, hotels, transportation, sporting goods stores for jerseys and merchandise. It’s not all about the players and owners , though they think it is. Greed rules. Glad you like the new look. I may try the dark look late at night just to see what it looks like. I doubt very seriously I’ll use it. Just want to see what it would look like.

  10. CJ,

That’s all we want right? Can’t we all just get along? But Nooooo. They have to go and kill the Goose.

  11. WM,

There were so many who could have fit the role of the mediator in this cartoon. I should have made it so that you could upload a picture into it. That would be funny.

  12. Dear Drew,

Nice cartoon though I admit I still don’t quite get the concept of Don King being in the middle. This is not a fight I wanted to see promoted.

Now my thinking has some MMA fighters would be good arbitrators. The NFL players couldn’t push them around (because they would push back and then some). Some of my choices would include Randy “The Natural” Couture, Brock Lesner, or “Action” Jackson.

Personally (and I think Gene from Omaha will like this since he likes wrestling as much as I do) I’d like to see the arbitrator to be “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. If either side won’t compromise he could give them a “Stone Cold Stunner”.

Yeah, both sides are behaving like little children. Only which side would you want to send to bed without supper? Or put in “time out”?

    All the best

    Louis

  13. Drew,

In taking my second look at the new format, I think what makes it crisp and clean is the white background with the wider page and thin dark borders. The page seems to load better, too. Not sure if that is anything you did, or my modem connection, though.

I love the suggestions for mediator…definitely don’t want to mess around with Aunt Bea! She would be wonderful…grabbing the owners and players by their ears. I can just picture it. From the wrestling world, I’d have to go classic…”Mad Dog” Vechon or Andre the Giant. Nothing against Stone Cold. MMA’s Brock Lesnar would be good, too. I think he is over his experience with the NFL as a player for the Vikings. He could bring perspective and a mean throw down. lol

  14. Drew–

Love the idea of a nun with a ruler whacking the two sides! There are still quite a few parochial schools in the Philly area, so that makes me chuckle a bit.

And yes, I agree that a lot of people not directly connected with the players or owners stand to lose a lot if these lunkheads don’t come to some sort of agreement. Last night’s news had a feature about Eagles’ season ticket holders having to put down a LOT of money in a very short time, with no guarantee of a season being played. I’m sure that has been talked about in Denver, too.

Latest news I heard was that the deadline has been extended for a week. (sigh) Seven more days of this??
