Bowden to Bow Out?

It’s tough when coaches have lost their edge, can’t see it and refuse to hang it up before they are pushed. Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno come immediately to mind. Great coaches in their day but both have clearly they coached past their primes. And after years of great football how can anyone really push them out the door. An official from inside the Florida State program was quoted as saying about the Bowden dilemma “we have to take the emotion out of it. We have to make it a business decision.” That doesn’t bode well for Bowden.

Rocktober update

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

they were saying on espn that without bowden and football, florida state would be a little known school in florida. some of the smaller schools are recruiting better players and are giving the seminoles a run.

at penn state, paterno is more of a figure head than an actual coach. both coaches have very capable staffs that make them look good. I would still enjoy the challenge to coach against them both.

asking both coaches to give up coaching is like telling your 85 year old father or mother that they can’t drive any more. and our time is coming in the next 25 to 30 years.

that is a bad thought. yes we are getting older but we aren’t old, yet.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. That looks suspiciously like Dean-O, Drew, but I know for a fact his desk is on the Colfax off-ramp on I-25!

  3. I have not really seen too much about what is going on with Bobby Bowden to have an opinion, but I just wanted to say GO ROCKIES today!!! I seen someone here at work with a freakin Philly hat and shirt on, made me wanna puke! Here is a drawing suggestion Drew: Give your opinion in a toon about people wearing other sports teams in your town while they know damn well what it means to this town to have a championship in baseball, football etc, etc. Good for the local economy, good for all of us here. Tell me something, would you get caught with a Bronco jersey in Oakland or in San Diego of course not. As a matter of fact my I am not sure if anyone remembers in the news along time ago. My father in law was jumped at a charger game and ended up in the hospital.

It is a free country indeed, but the number of Cowboy fans at last weeks contest was disgusting. YUCK! You can even here them cheer on tv. I remember a time at Mile High Stadium when it was a sea of orange and that was it, and the south stands being so drunk and rowdy that you could get drunk just by walking by them. Unfortunatly due to higher prices and corprate america we have people sitting on their hands and leaving before the game ends. Laker fans at the Nuggets games are bad too. YUCK! YUCK! We need to take this town back from those nasty fools who wear that crap! I am not condoning violence in any way but we should just stop selling the jerseys hats etc. Other tactics can be used to make them feel not welcome be creative in a non violent fashion. I am sick of it!!!

  4. How about your fellow Coloradan at St John’s University in Minnesota, John Gagliardi? Currently ranked #6 in D3 and he’s still the winningest coach in college football history.
