4 and Ohhhhhh

OK. I was wrong. really wrong. About Josh McDaniels. About the defense. About Pat Bowlen. About Kyle Orton. About most everything orange. The Broncos are for real. Isn’t it amazing to see a quarterback sack. isn’t it incredible to see Josh and Brandon kiss and make up. The whole thing is really quite strange don’t you think? I mean nothing makes any sense, but yet, there they are. 4 and 0hhhhh. Leading the AFC West. These are strange days indeed.

Sometimes Deadlines bring strange results. As I pushed forward last night to meet my deadline for the 9News 10 p.m. broadcast the cartoon above took several incarnations. one of which I’ve included here. How Brandon Marshall took on the likeness of John Travolta, I have no earthly idea. Needless to say it ended up on the cutting room floor, but I thought you might like to see what happens when the pen goes a bit cuckoo. Not to mention the cartoonist who was using it.

Caption Contest Update

I’ll be choosing the winner of this weeks contest sometime today and I’ll get the winner up online as soon as I can. My freelance schedule is playing complete havoc with being able to judge the contest, get the winner up, draw a new one and get the winners prizes in the mail. My apologies for not getting to it sooner.

  1. great cartoon drew!

im glad you’ve seen the light, i think a lot of people will be taking the Broncos a lot more seriously

i’ve been sold from the start, McD has impressed me from day one, everything he’s done has helped make them a better team and keeping that hothead marshall was a good move

bring on the next week! should be a great time for denver sports

  2. Drew,

What a great ‘toon! How weird was that to see Josh and Brandon hug after his touchdown catch? A month ago they probably wouldn’t have been caught dead in the same room together.

This first month has simply been an incredible ride. Admittedly there is still 75% of the season to go, and some of the best teams to face, but I now believe 1) I was wrong in giving up hope before the season started; 2) I said some rude things based on emotion rather than objective fact; and 3) the Broncos and McDaniels are the real deal.

Not only am I firmly back ensconced on the bandwagon, but best of all… I’m coming to Denver to see the Broncs play the Pats!!!

P.S. Glad to see that freelance schedule causing havoc. Hope that is a sign of lucrative things to come!

  3. Good Morning from Omaha,

the bronco’s are off to a great start. evidently the cupboard wasn’t all that bare when mickey d was put in charge. hired, appointed, whatever. the plan seems to working, which is great for the afc worst. the chiefs are really struggling, speaking of a bare cupboard, and it could be a long season in kc.

congratulations to the bronco’s. its not necessarily how you win, but that you do. there are some tough games ahead. adversity will show the true character of this team. everyone loves each other when its easy.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene

  4. Was happy to see the Broncos D actually show up yesterday. I was able to see most of the game yesterday. First Bronco game I was able to catch this year and was happy to see that they came to play. I admit I was scared when they were down by 10 off the bat but they hung in there. Still not counting on them getting into the playoffs yet but will hope they do.

  5. I am so proud of that Defense that we have!! WoW! Can you say the BEST Defense in the league?! Lets face it though everyone, Orton still has not had a really good game. It looks to me and someone help me out here, that Kyle is just making the safe play’s. He should have been picked off at least twice yesterday, especially the pass at the goal line that was a near disaster. Is it me or does Orton remind anyone of Jake Plummer? He looks way too nervous out there. Offense is a little shaky except for B-Marsh and the Running backs. I am not waiting for Orton’s failure but if he keeps playing safe he will get caught.

Way to go Broncos!!! This is a big week for the Rockies too!! Go ROX!!

  6. Brandon did make a remarkable catch and run, and the whole Marshall, McDaniels hug thing was entertaining. BUT I really believe that the game 4 hero was Champ Bailey! Those last two blocked passes with the game on the line? An interception? What else does he have to do not to get the recognition that Bad Boy Brandon has gotten? Sure, give BBB a slap on the back, maybe eve a hug, but the game ball goes to Champ da’ Man!

  7. What an amazing turn of events – hey; we all were pretty darned doubtful. But we all can’t draw such a great cartoon to say we were wrong. Most of us just mumble quietly into our beer!

As to your schedule; I know it’s about to be the death of you but it’s so wonderful to see you TOO busy, as opposed to merely fading away like so many of our favorites from the Rocky Mountain News have done. It’s good to see what a survivor looks like (shoot – maybe that could even apply to the Broncos) – don’t tell anybody.

Keep on drawing – it’s easier to be patient when we can laugh.
