Broncospy: The mistake by the flake

Update since this post:

Pat bowlen did respond to a football website last evening that Josh McDaniels is his head coach for the foreseeable future. He plans to make no changes this year and intimated not in 2011 either. His words don’t change mine below.

Here’s a brand new cartoon hot off the drawing board. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to jump on this crazy story in the land of Broncomania.

There are so many things wrong with using video cams to film other teams, especially during a Saturday walk through which often contains the first 15 plays a team scripts for Sunday, I just don’t know where to begin. Suffice to say it’s corrupt on so many levels that it’s a bit like digging through files in the Watergate building. Eventually you just knew Richard Nixon was in deep doo-doo. And so is Josh McDaniels.

I’m going out on a limb here, but to me, there is no way you can retain McDaniels as your head coach for next season with this skeleton in his closet. Trust is broken. The humiliation is huge and the damage is done.

Here’s what we need to take from all of this…If Pat Bowlen doesn’t make a change at the end of the year, the Denver Broncos are in big, big trouble. Because what it insinuates is even more worse than anything McDaniels regime has done to the franchise. It means there is no captain at the wheel. Whether it’s Bowlen’s health or something else within the organization going on, if McDaniels is left to coach next season it spells the end of Broncomania as we know it. It means blackouts in Denver. It means a runaway train heading over the cliff. And ain’t nobody stopping it. Nobody.

  1. Drew,

You are so right-on-the-money. Everyone knows that Bowlen doesn’t like to be embarrassed. I just don’t understand why he hasn’t taken any action, and fired McDaniels by now. It certainly would be worth paying him whatever his contract states – plus what he still owes Shanahan – to get rid of McDaniels and save the “face” of the Bronco organization. If something doesn’t happen soon, I fear we will hear that train a comin’ round the bend – before the end of the season.

  2. I am beginning to believe that Pat Bowlen has a serious illness (maybe dealing with his memory). He has been noticeably absent this year. He did do the interview with Woody Page saying his short term memory is not what it used to be. Why else would he let all this happen to a team he loves.

  3. Harry,

I read the same article. My take on it was different than yours. It made me aware of how serious it is to tape a walk through. Alfred Williams touched on it as well last night in Overtime on 9 news. People may like McDaniels personally, which is great. I felt that way about Wade Philips. But does that mean he should be a head coach. I don’t think so.

  4. McDaniels only chance for coaching the Broncos next season is if the owners vote to lock out the players which will result in a throw-away season. There will be some sort of coaching changes next season regardless because someone on McDaniels’ staff seems to be engineering a coup d’état.

  5. I’ll say it again, I really don’t think that you will see a firing of the head coach (he does not deserve to have his name said) until he has the contract of Shannahan off of his budget. There is now way that Bowlen will pay for 3 head coaches. Shanny, McDingus, and the Future HC. its just not going to happen. Bowlen has already come out and said he still supports him.

As a Huge Bronco fan, I find it sick and disrespectful to the team to keep him. we are statically the worst defensive team in the NFL. We have no pass rush, he have had 5 defensive coord. in the last 5 years, that is way too much change for our players and too many of the wrong guys in the wrong system. There needs to be a constant at the coaching level. We need to draft better and QUIT drafting offensive players. You might as well wave the white flag and start grooming the future of the Broncos and play Tebow now and get some reps in games time speed. I would rather see losses come from the future of the Broncos knowing its a learning curve then watching losses come from the “first team vets”

We all bleed orange and blue, but its hard to stay that way when all you see is red blood from the murdering you see every single weekend.

    Cheers from UTAH

  6. To: Brandon,

2 seasons of Josh McDaniels has me longing for the days of Lou Sabin (you may need to go to Wikipedia to find out who he was.) back in the day when 5-8-1 was considered a good season for Denver.

  7. Good Morning from Omaha,

I guess the Mickey D’s baggage is really ugly.

I honestly thought he could coach, and had a future with the Bronco’s.

I guess working with a defense attorney or being naive and always looking for the good in everyone

has put rose colored glasses over my eyes.

If you are going to cheat on a test you cheat off someone who gets A’s and not the numbskull you

    happen to sit next too.

A few years ago Omaha almost talked itself to death about a rumored sex scandal. It sad when the

whole town gets caught up in a situation and can’t find its way out. Bowlen, as K. said must have some serious

medical issues although its rare for a coach to be fired in the middle of the season.

the bronco’s will ride this season into the dirt, get up in January dust themselves off and start over.

Josh will be gone and he will take Tebow with him unless Tebow get a chance to play in the remaining

games to prove he has what it takes to be a NFL quarterback and not just a novelty act along with the dancing bears and the bearded lady.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  8. Love the Lou comment! Ah, those were the days. Half a loaf is better than none……..This leads us to Steve Tensi. Nuff said there. I guess these are better things to think about then cheating and tarnishing a team’s reputation. Why is a guy who has done this before on the staff? Wish I had the Rocky Mountain News to read.

  9. Josh Mcdaniels continues to self inflict wounds on the Denver Broncos reputation week after week. His arrogance has made him the biggest mistake in Broncos history. The stench coming from Denver is not coming from the sewers, but from Invesco Field at Mile High.

  10. Dear Mr. Litton,

Had a wandering thought today about your cartoon. Too good not to share it with you.

Maybe next season instead of playing “Rock and Roll Part 2” (or as many people think of it the “HEY!” song) they could play the theme from the TV show Dragnet.

    All the best

    Louis

  11. We love ya Drew!!! Read it every day!!! We appreciate the humor even tho some of this(most)is not funny at all at least you put a comedy to it.
