Father’s Day! Another take on the Day

Uncategorized

I Had the great pleasure of illustrating this awesome piece today by Will Pry for the Dallas Morning News. This one means a lot for many reasons but mostly because my own father, as a boy growing up in nearby Electra, Texas had a choice every Saturday. He could go to the matinee and watch Tom Mix and Gene Autry on the big screen for a dime or, go to the corner drugstore and buy the early Sunday edition of the Dallas Morning News to read the comics for the same price. Now most of the time he would opt for Tom Mix, because, I mean, it was, after all, Tom Mix! But today, I’d like to think he would have grabbed the Dallas Morning News and seen his son’s cartoon in it. Dad, This one’s for you. I love you!

  1. Great work Drew!! If your dad was here he would be so proud of you!! Hope you had a nice Dad’s Day.

Will you be at the LA area Comic Con?

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

way to go drew! you made it into the dallas morning news. maybe that move to Plano doesn’t need to be made if you can do the work from denver.

what a weekend. my wife got me a card that featured a fresh band aid. You have to know me to get the joke. She also got me a fresh pair of shoes for my walking, so I put them to good use.

glad comic con worked out for you and you were able to attend.

gonna be about 100 here today and humid so the ball games at the CWS are going to be a “hot”ticket!

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. Drew–

Congratulations on your debut in the Dallas Morning News. It’s a great cartoon with a great story to match it.

  4. Drew,

Way to hit the DMN!!! From my time living in North Dallas, you could do far worse than Plano. It is a great suburb, and the surrounding communities are awesome.

The only Comic Con I ever attend was a Dallas ‘Con (in Plano, no less) and the place was packed with people.

The collaboration you and Will Pry had in this ‘toon is really enjoyable. It shares two guys’ takes on their father. His words and your art. I imagine you must have had lots of fond memories of your Dad when you did the drawing.
