  1. If you’re going to tell a story, you need a good villain. If it’s a sports story, what better villain than a rich owner who can seemingly buy championships? Only the Yankees under Steinbrenner could manage to make the very rich Red Sox seem like the plucky underdog (until 2004 at least). Steinbrenner never seemed to have a problem with being cast in that role. From a distance, he even seemed to enjoy it.

I’m sure baseball will move along just fine, but the Yankees are a bit harder to hate today.

Congrats to the NL for breaking the losing streak in the All-Star game. Let’s go Rockies so we can have home field in the World Series this year!

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

George will be missed. He was everything both good and bad about baseball.

the big paydays for just above average players, the championships for those “damn yankees”.

above all he wanted to win, jacks, marbles or baseball he wanted to win.

I hope his kids inherited something besides his money…like his drive to succeed!

massive heart attack at 80, gee, thats young.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

    Gene
