I’ll Have Another won’t get Another Try.

It’s sad to know that we won’t get to see a I’ll Have Another capture the Triple Crown winner this year after all. If there is anything positive to take out of this decision not to run a Champion horse is that greed ultimately lost. Oh sure the I’ll have Another “franchise” will stand to make a lot of money at the stud farm, but there was certainly more cash to be made if the horse had some how been able to run and win it all. So glad that somewhere along the line someone had the best interests of the animal involved in making a lot of people huge amounts of cash already. It makes me feel good about humanity for a change. I think the great Bruce Cockburn said it best:

Seen a lot of things in the world outside

Some bad but some good stuff too

Felt the touch of love in the works of God

And now and then in what people do

Never had a lot of faith in human beings

But sometimes we manage to shine.

  1. It has been 34 years since we last had a Triple Crown winner in horse racing. That is a long time. I’ll Have Another’s owners, trainers, and vet, had to make a very difficult decision, and they made it in the horse’s best interest. Difficult, in that the horse will never compete again. Yet, it was an easy decision, in that he gets to live a long life in very green pastures. Isn’t it amazing to think, that for the amount of time it takes in the preparation and training of a horse to race, that an actual race is just a few moments long? It baffles me, sometimes.

The poor Cubs, on the other hand, go through Spring training and game day practices, to put out nine innings of work, and they still lose. I think Cub fans are beyond the feeling of being let down. I think they go into a season expecting that it won’t be any different than the season before. If only it was, and they could win a pennant, and then the World Series. Right now, the Twins are having their way with the Cubs. The Twins have won 9 of their last 11 games. Life in Twins Territory is like an amusement park: fun, and filled with wild rides. I’m not sure what the Cubs need to do to start winning again. It is clear that they don’t know, either. Maybe a walk through greener pastures will help to clear their minds, and figure things out. Or not.

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

let dow of expectations or just everyone looking for some good news, feel good story amidst a sea of otherwise bad stuff like the economy, politics, afghanistan.

You almost expect the cubs to lose.THey have provided the model for the Slayors of KC for years now. About the time they start to look good the penny flips to the bad side and off they go into another 3 game slide.

With I’ll have another I was really hoping to see history. IF the horse had run, without the tendonitis , who knows what could have been. either way it would have been history. the Omaha paper put news of the race on page5. the lead stuff was all CWS related. Who is coming to town, and preparations for the games. also the US olympic swim trials are in town the last two weeks of June and the paper covered that.Like I said page 5 for the belmont and the winner. IF everyones favorite horse had run and won- front page of the sports section was almost guaranteed.

AS humans we tend to look for the good in everyone. IT seems to be a rare person that will continually berate and browbeat everyone and everything. I’ll have another was a chance to see history, and celebrate good again.

The owners, trainer and vet made a decision based on what was best for the horse. In doing so it cost them an estimated 30 million dollars in fee’s they could have attracted when they sold the services of a triple crown winner. I guess we should celebrate their decision and move on to find history being made some place else. Or just get started making our own history of firsts. First walk around the block, first bike ride of the day, first time to walk away from the M&M’s today or even first time calling that relative that you haven’t heard from in a while.

Lets not wait for others but make some history of our won, TODAY.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
