Josh McDaniels Christmas Story

Uncategorized

Wow. This was a bombshell only Pat Bowlen is capable of dropping. Josh McDaniels is fired. The Broncos have new life. And it’s going to be an Orange Christmas after all.

One of the good things about drawing for a blog like this is I don’t have to wait to put it online and out to all of the Broncos fans who have waited for this moment.

I don’t like to make fun of someone who just lost their job, so I’ll at least keep the writing civil, but the Broncos relieving McDaniels of his duties is a relief. The Broncos have a rebuilding project ahead but at least we know it will be done by someone more competent than Josh McDaniels.

I love the movie Christmas story and this image popped into my head shortly after I got the news that McDaniels was gone.

I’m also really, really glad to know that Mr. Bowlen made this decision now rather than later. To let it go on much longer would have been a horrendous disservice to Broncos fans all over the world.

  1. Someone received an early Christmas present….the Bronco fans and the entire franchise can go back to wearing their orange and blue with pride. Thanks, Santa Bowlen!

  2. This is almost as big as when Mr. Bowlen fired Mike Shanahan. Hopefully this brings and end to the madness and restores Broncomania.

  3. GMFO-

The new coach has a pot of stew to work with and he wants to make a steak dinner- It going to be tough to right this ship and maybe studsville is not the final answer but the owner had to do something.

Now the questions about Tebows future will start- maybe he can play linebacker-try him at qb but he will remain a project for a long time to come.

GO BRONCO”S- I have a feeling that the chiefs are going to need some help toward the end of the season.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  4. McDaniels almost single handedly destroyed the Broncos reputation. He had no character and Bronco fans are not use to that. His character does not fit well with a quality organization, which is why he did well with the Pats.

  5. Dear Mr. Litton,

Hope you don’t mind a little singing here. (Sing) Hit the road Josh, and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more no more. Hit the road Josh, and you come back no more.

    or maybe

(sing) Na, Na, Na, Na. Na, Na, Na, Na. Hey Josh! Goodbye!

All right. Now I’ve had my moments of fun. Time to get serious. No matter who eventually runs the Bronco’s full time he’s taking over a team that had been gutted like a fish the last two seasons. The new coach may feel like Fred Sanford at the junk shop.

    All the best,

    Louis

  6. Drew,

You put together my favorite movie and my fondest Christmas wish. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Extra props for getting on the story so fast!

Maybe one day Josh will grow into a better coach, but thankfully it won’t be on the Broncos’ dime.

  7. Why is Dan Issel Santa Claus? Of course it makes perfect sense to fire McDaniels now instead of waiting until after the season. Now you have a chance to be paying 3 coaches next year (Shanahan, McDaniels, and whatever no-name we get) and a lockout looming. Good stuff!

  8. While it is not cool to make fun of someone who lost their job (coming from someone who was laid off 9 months ago and still unemployed), my heart doesn’t exactly break for McDaniels. He’s still going to be paid whatever millions of dollars he is owed in his contract for the next two years.

Where can I find a job like that? lol

  9. It was clear to me from the beginning that the Broncos should have hired Steve Spagnuolo instead of Josh McDaniels. As a former defensive coordinator, Spagnuolo would have left the offense alone and the fixed the defense, which still remains a problem to this day. Instead, McDaniels dismantled an offense that wasn’t the reason the Broncos lost games late in the season. The moral of the story: don’t be too impressed by a job candidate’s ability to blow smoke during an interview.

  10. Nice work, Drew. Couldn’t wait to get back from work and see if you’d done anything on this. I think you know how I felt from Blunder Boy, even though he’s from my part of Ohio and went to high school with my niece. Interesting that Bowlen, after dumping Shanny, is continuing to take charge of his team. But don’t get excited Broncos fans, cuz you’re not going to get a big-name coach. It’s not about the money, it’s about Bowlen having control. Bowlen’s next hire is going to be a very interesting choice. One man’s humble opinion.

  11. Well it IS good news for my friends who are Denver donkey fans. I had most of them on suicide watch. With the firing of Santa’s bad elf, I can now feel that my frends and co-workers wont hurt themselves.

    The OG Raider Gary

  12. Yes Yes We Can now is time 4 Bowlen to mend fences n not go off on emotion stands in stadium full release the Broncos see a man carrying boots running 4 his life…Fans stand n Salute after the dust clears Broncoville is back Joy could be heard

  13. Another great cartoon Drew!

That idea has probably been in the wings fot the perfect situation.

  14. Harsh..but some of us agree…There was a black cloud..It had to go. This may or may not be the end of this situation, the CALM before the STORM!

  15. I know he’s had his troubles in Houston, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Gary Kubiak come back to Denver. And he might be cheaper than someone like Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher.

  16. Me too on Kubiak! Love that guy. Always felt that Mr. Bowlen wanted him, but wanted him to get some experience and a few years under his belt elsewhere.

  17. Mr Bowlen,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You gave Broncoland what we wanted and that is an Orange Christmas. I can now hold my head up high again.

    Signed,

    Bronco Fans everywhere.

  18. Josh should have been fired numerous time before.

Trading all those draft picks for a QB project should have done it.

This is the NFL, teams kill for 2nd and 3rd round picks.

  19. I’ve come back to this website several times. I wonder if Mr. Litton thinks we’re just piling on Mr. McDaniels or if this just might been a relativly clean version of catharsis.

    Just wondering.

    All the best to everyone

    Louis

  20. I might be just a little bummed about the firing.

Mostly because I’m a Chargers fan and the Broncos were consistently losing under him. 😉

But I do seriously hope that the Broncos find a great replacement who will have no problem picking up the pieces and making them a proud team once again.

    Good luck to them!

    And hilarious cartoon!

  21. I am a Broncos fan, and I have to say I am unhappy about the way McDaniels was treated by everyone — including you Drew. For good or ill (and personnally I think it was more good than not) he was the coach of the Broncos, and he deserved at least a modicum of patience and support from the fnas and the media. Instead he was publically scorned and crucified for doing what a lot of us felt was needed: ridding the locker room of cancers and petulant whiney-boys left over from Mike Shanahan’s poor player management. Yes, there was a lot he could have done better, but he was vilified by the press and fans before he even sat in a chair. While I’d expect as much from Raider fans, I’ve been saddened by the venomous bile directed toward McDaniels that has flowed from the keyboards and pens over the last two years.

Rather than directing our ire at McDaniels, let’s instead look at Joe Ellis: a marketing manager who has somehow managed to worm his way up to running the Broncos. You blame McDaniels: I blame the man who put McDaniels into a position to make the mistakes. Now the Broncos are without any type of coach, and the COO has admitted publically he has no idea how the team is moving forward. This is not a good situation, and bodes poorly for the franchise to move forward. MY dream Christmas present is a reprise of the cartoon above, with Ellis getting the boot.
