Losing Chauncey Billups

Uncategorized

This one pretty much sums up what it feels like to lose Chauncey Billups for me. Sure Melo had to go, but did he have to take the heart and soul of Colorado basketball with him? I drew this for all of the Nuggets fans in Denver who feel betrayed by Melo, and the Nuggets front office. The image is a bit stark, but it fits the mood of the city right now. It feels like we have lost a part of the landscape. I’d love to know how you feel now that the trade is a few days old.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

or to paraphrase tony bennett (badly) “we lost the heart of the nuggetts ball team, it slipped away when billups left” ok I know I am pushing it way too hard this morning.

I just read an article in another paper, not the post, and while we may not like the way things are done in professional sports, that is the new norm.

I still remember when pete rose, who was born and raised in cincinnati, left the reds, for the money, and went to philly. I was like “how could he do this to his hometown” but then I was under the age of 21 and still very naive, not that I am so worldly now.

It finally came out that Pete was a jerk and a MLA, major league a-hole, which is probably something everyone in cincy knew but because of he was so loved they let it slide.

the sports reporters no longer keep the curtains to the locker room closed and we see and hear it all ,even the worts.

hopefully chauncey will be back after the season is over and have a chance to re sign with the nuggets and eventually retire from his hometown team. In the meantime, if the weather ever clears, nature and the wilderness are calling me outside.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Dear Drew,

I find one major irony in this cartoon and I make this comment only because if I didn’t make a joke I would be miserable…..

That cartoon shows a rare sight. Melo actually stealing something. Too bad it wasn’t a basketball.

    All the best.

  3. Not only do I feel sad for us (the fans) but I feel really sad for Chauncey’s little girls. I saw an interview with Chauncey last night and he said that the hardest thing about this was telling his girls that he had to leave them for a while, but hopefully the Nuggets will make it right in the off season and bring him back. We ran into the Billup’s family at a soccer tournament last year and it was so nice just to see them out and about as a regular family – no spot light or special attention – just a family watching their girls play soccer. To bad for Melo and his reality TV wife that they will never have the class that the Billup’s family has!!!

  4. This cartoon pretty much sums up how I feel about the Nuggets right now. I’m so angry at Melo for the whole mess of the trade. I got so sick of hearing about ‘will he’ or ‘won’t he’? I hate seeing Billups go. In all honesty he shouldn’t have been part of the trade. He loves Colorado and didn’t want to go to New York. So sad.

  5. Carmelo was smart enough to know that Billups was one of the real engines of the Nuggets, and rightfully hopes he can do the same with him in New York.

Here’s hoping, for Nuggets fans, that they can use what they got in the trade to build for the future. Could we be looking back on this the same way that Dallas Cowboys fans look at the Herschel Walker trade that got them Irvin, Emmitt and Aikman?

  6. Good one Drew, but Chauncey is a class act, he won’t wine about it, and hopefully one day he can be back in a Nuggets uni.

  7. Well drawn and well stated Drew. Just when I was about ready to give the Nuggets’ front office a bit of credit for finally getting rid of the classless act of Anthony they screw it up and give up one of the very few class guys in the league.

Just another reason why I almost never watch the NBA these days. Yes, the athleticism that many of these guys is amazing. Their antics and their “all about me” attitude leaves me wishing they got to spend some time with Guy Gibbs and learn what being on a team is all about.

  8. Good one Drew…lots of empty seats a the Pepsi Center coming up. All in all a sound business decision.

  9. Im glad all this is behind us now and hopeful that Chauncey can get back to Denver somehow.

Makes me appreciate the Rockies offseason deals with Tulo and Cargo, not having to worry about those guys going to New York will be nice.

  10. Really fabulous comments on Chauncey everyone. I know we will all miss him, but let’s hope perhaps he can return someday.

  11. Still sad to see Billups in that horrible knicks blue and orange jersey. what is worse is seeing Carmelo in a number 7 jersey. oh so now by process of elimination does he have to wear that number in those colors. Wasn’t the double zero jersey not available or what. I hope the nuggets get close group of players through all this. Also to have a better team in tow as well. As always GO BRONCOS!!!!

  12. Drew–

I feel for Chauncey Billups, because he is going to have a major culture shock coming from Denver to NYC. Poor guy.

I went through that several years ago, moving from Denver to the Philly area. I still miss Colorado like nobody’s business.
