My Favorite All-Star

Here’s one of my favorite cartoons of all-time about one of my heroes, the great Buck O’Neil. I did this shortly after Buck passed away. I highly recommend a few books about O’Neil that you can find in my Drew’s Bookstore link on the right. He was quite a guy.

A Big thanks to Kyle Banister for putting on the Ritz last night at the Baseball and Art show downtown. You can still see the work, and there’s some great Baseball stuff there. So head on down. For more info check yesterday’s blog post.

  1. Drew,

That is an awesome cartoon. Too bad the baseball HOF was not smart of enough to get him in the Hall before he passed away. Maybe, someday they will get it right and put him in there.

You are right, the books about him and by him are great. I really enjoy “The Soul of Baseball: A Road Trip Through Buck O’Neil’s America”

By Joe Posnanski. That is a great book and you get to see the spirit of Buck O’Neil in that book.

We made a trip to the Negro League Baseball Museum in KC last year. That was a great place to visit.

  2. Scot,

I envy your trip to KC. Sounds like it was great. There’s a great graphic novel about Satchel Paige that is fantastic, I recommend it highly as well as the O’Neil biography “I was Right on Time”
