My Favorite Soccer cartoon

Uncategorized

This Soccer cartoon will always be one of my favorites. It’s a good day for a cartoonist when he or she can convey their sentiments without words. And if it ends up on a refrigerator somewhere, now that’s a perfect day.

So the big kickoff is Saturday. I’ll be doing a cartoon as soon as I can after the USA match-up with England for ESPN.com. And I’m turning over a new leaf. (gulp). From here on I treat soccer with some respect. I deserves it. It’s time. And to be honest, I’ll gladly take 90 minutes of watching a bunch of guys kicking a ball around a green pasture over the tragic images coming out of the Gulf. Those break my heart.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

love the cartoon, drew. without words you have conveyed the feelings of a majority of the population.

But like the USA hockey team people will watch just to see if the American team can compete and if the team happens to get past England, soccer “fever” will sweep america until after the world cup ends. Soccer will fill the time between bad baseball and football season.

The college world series starts soon, drew. are you going to include it in your cartoons?

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Morning Gene!

Don’t know what I’d do without ya.

Hmmm. College World Series. Don’t think I’ve ever done one of those before.

Gotta do it. Now, it’s off to bed for me. Another All-nighter.

  3. To everyone else, soccer and the World Cup is the equivalent of Viagra.

    Go USA!

  4. GMFO,

you should come out and go to a game or two. its a blast! lots of people and lots of fun.

It is a true “sporting event”, no big money involved just a bunch of people having a good time.

Come on over to the red side, now that the buffs are off and running for the west coast!

  5. Watched Mexico vs. South Africa this morning. Didn’t fall asleep once. Of course, those horns were blowing non-stop.
