NFL: To be or Not to Be?

We are getting close to the time when the NFL turns into pumpkins. Pumpkins to be kicked and smashed and catapulted from the existence of our lives for the better part of an entire season, if not the whole thing. What do you think?
Oh and speaking of pumpkins…

I think it’s better to cut the season entirely, rather than have an abridged season.
Frankly, at this point, I hope there is no NFL this year. Maybe a year off will get people to think more about things that really matter, like family, time in the sun, our armed forces that are still in harms way. The NFL can be a nice distraction at times, but people put too much faith in an untrue master. It’s a game! Maybe we should focus more on life!
Dear Drew,
I will not cry if there is no NFL season in 2011. I could be quite happy watching the NFL’s minor league (a.k.a. College Football) instead. When I think of the owners and the NFLPA they remind me of a movie title……”Dumb and Dumberer”
All the best

Good Morning from Omaha,
Day 100 of American football fans held hostage. I was reading Woody’s column in the Denver Past over the weekend. He had a column where he spoke with a guy from Boulder who is an attorney that has represented NFL players past and present. He figures that the owners are just waiting out the players because like it or not when the players start to miss paychecks this deal is going to get done. while training camp may be shortened and there may not be a pre season there will be a season.
The real losers, in addition to the fans, are unsigned free agents who only want a chance.to make a team, Would coaches rather have a known quantity in a player, as in one they have on the roster, or roll the dice on someone that has yet to prove themselves over a 16 game season. The attorney seems to think a lot of unsigned free agents will fall by the way side.
I am just going to wait them out. I haven’t paid much attention to the negotiations and am ready for college football if the Chiefs and the Bronco’s don’t get a chance to play. I have something, anything going on in my life that is more important than holding my breath waiting for the millionaires and billionaires to settle there differences. and yes, will be back when they start to play games again. Just wake me when the strike is over.
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

I have to agree with Alan in that I couldn’t give a rat’s behind for a football season. Football seems to be a big religion to America, and when the separation of church and state (Owners and players) happens, the fans will have their faith torn and many will just leave when the church (stadium) locks its doors on the first day of the week (season). Get my picture? 🙂
At least the Rockies have managed to amend their mess of a start of a season. I hope they keep the steamroller on so they can roll into 1st place in the NL West.
I’ve never followed the college game; the NFL was always good enough for me. But I’m about to put all of my Broncos’ t-shirts and jerseys in the storage bin (spent too much money on them to give them away). Stopped in a Wal-Mart in Denver last week; they had a definite lack of Broncos’ merchandise as compared to years past. Perhaps they see the writing on the wall.
The closest major college to me is University of Texas (which has stepped on a few collegiate toes lately), but my alma mater, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA, or as we like to say here, “University of Texas, South of Austin”) is getting their own football team this season. I was against the idea of UTSA setting up a football team here; there are enough college football teams in Texas. But now that the NFL looks headed for a half-season at best, UTSA is looking a lot better as an alternative. At least the tickets won’t be astronomically priced.
Wonderful weather up in Silverthorne last week; averages in the low 70s. Came back to 105-degree temps here in San Antonio, plus a serious drought. Bummer. Send some of that snowmelt our way, would ya? We could sure use it here. Damn La Nina and global warming!
