Now There’s an App For That!

Uncategorized

Our first DrewLitton.com app has arrived. The Daily Drew App is a calendar featuring the cartoon of the day that you can download onto to your desktop at work or at home. Here’s the link to get it or you can get there by clicking on this widget!

It was designed by Russell Houlden, a talented Software Developer and President of Houlden.net in Nebraska. Originally from Denver, I met Russell years back at a few parties that my sports editor, Barry Forbis, had. He was Barry’s neighbor. Anyway, Russell looked me up on facebook and pitched me a few ideas for various ways my cartoons can be used on the web and on cell phones. Russell is in his lab now putting together our first Android app and some other cool stuff that we know you’ll like. We likely won’t be tinkering with an iPhone app any day soon. Apple doesn’t like to work with cartoonists who draw real people. The last guy who won the Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Cartooning had his app originally rejected by Apple. Only after he won the Pulitzer did Apple relent to let him add his app to the mix. Yet Apple doesn’t seem to have a problem with the porn industry, or so I’m told. I have an Android phone and love it!

So please welcome Russell aboard. He’ll be around kicking the tires on the site and cooking up some awesome stuff for us. If you have any questions about the app just leave them in the comments section under today’s cartoon. I know the app might not load on some computers that are older. My 2004 version of Macbook, for instance, didn’t play well with it. But most computers will happily oblige.

Here’s a quick note from Russell that he posted on my facebook profile today:

“You shouldn’t have to wait long for the Android App. In the meantime, I hope that you enjoy Drew’s calender on your desktop. I really like having a new cartoon on my desktop when I start my computer in the morning! As time goes on, it’s also building nice archive of Drew’s cartoons. So you can pick past dates and his cartoons will be delivered to you. I do hope you enjoy it.” -Russell Houlden-

I’ll be at the San Diego Comic-Con later this week so my posting schedule might change a bit. I’ll let you know if I’m not drawing the day before. Oh and sign up to join the Drew Crew and get the Summer edition of our Newsletter.

  1. Dear Drew,

First of all a great cartoon. Not just funny for sports but as a political commentary as well.

Now for the record I never understood how fantasy baseball works. I had a friend who tried to explain the scoring system to me which got so complicated that I joked,”…and the Einstien theory is relatively easy.”

At least with the fantasy football league I was in the rules were so simple it was written on two post it notes. #1: Scoring: every touchdown, PAT, FG, and safety your players get you get same number of points. #2: Your team 14 rounds of drafting. Play 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 team defense.

With baseball you have to worry about the overlapping of days off for teams plus the scoring of doubles, triples, and pitching. Its too complicated for me to enjoy.

I’ll get off my soapbox now.

    Take care Mr. Litton.

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

I never got into fantasy baseball, but then you know by now that baseball is a game to be played or experienced at Coors Field or Kaufmann Stadium or Wrigley or Fenway……. its waste of time on TV and with classes I don’t have time to deal with “fantasy”baseball.

I love the new app but have to get permission from the owner of this laptop, The beautiful MRS., to download much of anything on her school laptop. The school is always worried about virus’s that could infect there intranet. I assume its clean but it is not my call and the cartoon is great again today.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. Fantasy sports is Dungeons and Dragons for people who made fun of the kids who played Dungeons and Dragons in high school. Of course, I play both…

  4. Great toon Drew. I wonder if you can use your stocks now to enter into a Fantasy Baseball league. Keep up the good work

  5. As I am not much of a baseball fan, Fanstasy Baseball just seems too much as the sport of baseball is. I agree with the simple fanasty football if you into that. I just enjoy sports as they are. with all the stats and drama we have that is enough for me much less wondering if my fanasty team is doing well or not. Less that a month away for Broncos football I can’t wait or less than two weeks before the birth of The TEBOW WATCH or as known as Broncos training camp. GO BRONCOS!!!
