One for Fun: Fireworks

Uncategorized

Another one for fun cartoon. I might tackle the tennis marathon in the next day or so but today it’s all about the Fireworks. I did this one for this weeks North Metro Newspapers.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Actually nothing could be further from the truth. I really can’t stand this time of year when the blasting starts and the air stinks and it all continues for weeks on end. Oh I’m good with stadium displays and ones held at big venues. But not in the ones down the street, right next door. Fireworks are for July 4th. One day. That’s the limit.

Agree? Disagree? Lemme know.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I didn’t think Colorado allowed fireworks? When we’ve been out there over the fourth weekend- I haven’t heard any miscellaneous bang and booms.

They are shooting of the fireworks here in Omaha as well. Yes they are illegal but unless you burn something down with a stray bottle rocket there are more important things for the police to deal with than kids and firecrackers.

So when I hear them go off I holler Happy June 22nd!!!

I usually make a run to Missouri and by some of the bigger stuff for a display for the kids across the street but since my daughter and son have moved on they just don’t some to hold the same fascination for me.

Oh well, I will shoot off what they call artillery shell that put out sparkles and crackles and booms and bangs. No bottle rockets or black cats- must be my age, another symptom of growing up but not getting older.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. We had to flee our spot waiting for the Greeley Stampede fireworks in the parking lot at Startek last year because the idiot brothers spent their paychecks buying the big stuff in Wyoming.

There they were, firing off huge roman candles and motars without a care in the world. Even though some of that stuff was coming awful close to other cars (ours included).

It would have helped if the Stampede fireworks started on time. However, they had to wait for the concert to finish.

  3. Apu from The Simpsons said it best when it came to fireworks:

“What better way to celebrate the birth of your country than by blowing up a piece of it!”

  4. Man, I live near a bunch of pyromaniacs. I’m in unincorporated Adams county so we don’t have many laws about it. Just noise ordinances. Fireworks go off at the end of the Super Bowl, New Years and from Memorial Day through the week after the 4th. On the 4th itself, if there isn’t a strong wind, I’ll have smoke settle in like a fog bank in my neighborhood. My poor dog is scared most of the time.

  5. I once determined that the best place to view fireworks in Metro Denver was in Federal Heights on top of an apartment building. With a solid telescope/pair of binoculars, you can catch the Rockies, Rapids, Outlaws, Thornton and Westminster shows.

  6. Dear Drew,

I agree. Once a year, on the 4th of July should be sufficent. The only exception I ever made was on Jan. 1 2000. The start of the new millenium. Ironicly many of my neighbors had the same idea. We all came out of our houses after midnight, shot off the fireworks and by 12:30 we all ran back into the house before we froze out (you know whats) off.

P.S. Had a vision for a cartoon based on the marathon match. Imagine the match and over it was the logo of the TV show Survivor maybe with the logo saying Outlast, Outplay, Outendure. (or something like that)

  7. Good morning Drew –

I guess one of the good things about being out in the middle of nowhere, Oregon, is that we don’t have the barrage of fireworks going off leading up to the 4th of July. There will be some diehards on the next ridge over who will set them off on the 4th, but that’s about it.

Which is a good thing, because my dog would go nuts.

I hope you have a great holiday nonetheless!
