Here’s only reason # 427 why I’m not a Yankees fan. Can you give me the other 426 reasons? Or at least one or two?
Follow Me
Good Morning from Omaha,
You want a reason to hate the Yankee’s?
My late mother in Law used to love the yankee’s. she didn’t know any other baseball team but the yankees. Yankee this , yankee that…..
It may not be on your hypothetical list but it was on top of mine. If she was for them I was against them. We had quite the relationship, but I love her daughter forever!!!
Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.
Gene
Because everyone else cheers for them and someone has to hate them.
One day Denver is going to be a great home-team sports town, but it makes me cringe when teams like the Yankee’s, the Red Sox, and the Cubs come to town and there are more visiting team fans than Rockies Fans.
My take, is that the average fan of those teams, are only on the band wagon because it seems like the “cool” thing to do and not because they wake up every morning and check the box score. Heck, they probably don’t even know what a box score is!
Anyway, here’s to the Rockies having an even better second half and maybe winning their first ever division title.
Here are some of my reasons why I don’t like the Yankee’s
Billy Martin managing them twice.
Hillary Clinton is a Yankee fan.
I just don’t like New York in general (which is ironic since I was born in Poughkeepsee and have relatives in Long Island)
A-Rod
They seem to dominate All Star selections even in years when they don’t do well in the standings (which I admit is a rare feat)
Well those are my thoughts off the top of my head. I’m sure given time I could think of others
Great reason to Hate the Yankees you guys!. Louis had a long list. My favorite was probably the Hillary line.
Gen, as always you come up with gems. I think that’s hilarious that you go the opposite of your what your mother-in-law liked. Very appropriate.
And BS, it is depressing that Yankees fans turn out in droves when the Rockies are at home. Maybe someday it won’t be that way.
Anyway, great stuff!
Yeah, I hate when someone wins by putting the best product on the field within the rules too. That aside, it’s simple economics: the Yankees and Red Sox are competing for entertainment dollars in arguably the most sophisticated and saturated entertainment markets on the planet. The Royals and Diamondbacks don’t spend like that because they don’t have to.
Don’t like it? Argue for a salary cap, don’t bitch about the guys who figured it out and are doing it right.
We used to have a New Yorker in our office who was like Gen’s mother-in-law. When the Yankees won the series, he expected us to congratulate him every day for a week. (He did do that for me when the Broncos won their two Super Bowls – so he expected it in return.)
I don’t care if someone wants to wear a Yankees cap/shirt/pin/etc. every day. I don’t care if they build a shrine to their team at their desk. I wince about it if someone comes in to talk to them about it, but I can tolerate it as long as I’m not required to join in on the conversation.
Call me what you like, but I don’t care for watching baseball – too boring for me. It’s on the same level as watching golf. But when someone throws something in your face that you have absolutely no interest in at all, then you learn to hate it. And that’s why I hate the Yankees.
Plus, my brother-in-law is from Boston and he’s a Red Sox fan.
September can’t get here fast enough for me. I pity the guys in the Sports department across from me, as all they have to fill content is MLB, WNBA and golf. I don’t care much for the Cowboys either (still hold a grudge from Super Bowl XII) but I’d rather hear about them than MLB.
Living out in Baltimore it is taught to hate the Yankees. I got one. In 1996 in the ALCS Tarasco hit a home run that was taken away by a fan who was 12 years old. The Yankees awarded the 12 year old with tickets to the rest of the ALCS and the World Series.
There is a book that was written a few years ago called “Yankees Suck! The Unofficial Guide for Those Who Hate, Despise, Loathe, and Detest Those Bums from the Bronx” It was writted by Jim Gerard.
When the Yankees are in town here there are a number of fans from New York here. I was talking to one and he said they go to games across the country because it is actually cheaper for them to go to another stadium to see them play. So the Yankees ticket prices are too expensive.
More Reasons:
They make the Red Sox seem sympathetic in comparison.
A $1.5B Stadium that most New Yorkers can’t afford to visit.
Reggie Jackson is the most overrated player in the history of the Sport. You heard me.
They give you a glimpse of what Cub fans would be like if they ever won.
The Late PA Announcer (I will speak ill of the dead) would introduce the Yankees lineup as if they were the College of Cardinals, and visitors as if they were on trial in Nuremburg.
Every day for six months out of the year, they take up 15 minutes of time on SportsCenter and another 10 on Baseball Tonight.
I spent the summer on 1992 in Brooklyn. Kim Jong Il is praised less on the Pyongyang TV station than the Yankees are in the ever-present NY media.
Derek Jeter is still a reasonably nice guy who keeps out of any real trouble…but he wears those pin-stripes.
Pin-Stripes! They’re only worn by gangsters and Bahamian bankers.
Two of my exes are Yankee fans. One lives in Houston and the other in Phoenix.
Finally, a true story: In 2005, while living in Dallas, I went to a handful of Ranger games (I lived 2 miles from the stadium, and one of my buds was a colossal baseball fan), including a Yankee game. We sat behind a husband and wife in Yankee chapeaus. Mark Teixeira hustled and dove for a ball in shallow right, just missing it:
Yankee Husband: Yeah, he’s not very good.
Me: He’s one of the best 5 First Basemen in the league! He just got voted to the All-Star team and is hitting .305!
Husband (to wife): You have to love how these locals stick up for their players.
Teixeira won the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger that year. Now, He’s a Yankee.
The Yankees are the reason everyone else wants either a salary cap, revenue sharing….or to bring back collusion.
reasons to loathe the Yankees
1. Payroll bigger than most countries GDP
2. Fan Base never gets tired of rubbing the number of world championships in your face
3. cherry picking the best players from around the league
4. all complaints about Yankees baseball is “jealousy” on your part
I always have been a fan of beefcake…..
