Some Drew News…specifically 9News

All things are possible

I just wanted to let you know about a really exciting opportunity that has come my way. Last night 9News debuted it’s first of what we hope will be many of my cartoons. For the next few months I’ll be drawing not only here at www.drewlitton.com but also over at 9News. I’ll draw cartoons there three days a week on all kinds of topics, (not just sports) with some animation and contests and games and who knows what thrown in. I’ll be a bit like the crazed scientist in the lab trying to concoct some fun new content for both broadcast and the web. It’s an experiment, with no guarantee of compensation. But we are hopeful it will lead to new directions and possibilities for the future.

It’s very similar to the way I got my job at the Rocky Mountain News. I did a bunch of sample cartoons on topics the New’s sports editor gave me to see if I could produce cartoons on demand. Thankfully it worked. I’m as optimistic about the potential at 9News as I was about the Rocky when I joined them some 26 years ago.I want to stress that nothing will change here at drewlitton.com. The content here will be different than the things you will find over at 9News. I hope all of you will join me both here and there. I think you’ll have twice the fun. I know I will.

What about inDenverTimes?

I’m still on the list of contributors for the future launch of inDenverTimes.com. It is targeted to officially launch on May 4. In all reality it has been building momentum daily and is a functional news outlet right now, but will add additional content viewable only through subscription. The truth of the matter is, that given the state of the current economy and the challenges that all media face in this age of great technological change, creators like myself who provide unique content may have multiple outlets for their work to be seen. For instance the cartoons you read here on www.drewlitton.com are not currently producing enough revenue to pay the mortgage, or the cable bill for that matter. I believe that will change, but it may take a few years to drive enough revenue to be profitable. So I will have to fish in a lot of ponds for awhile. In any case, I’m committed to given you the best content I can wherever it may be found.
