Spring’s Hope Eternal

Uncategorized

I’m not sure if it’s feeling like spring where you live. I just know Florida and Arizona are starting to bloom. Baseball is in the air. And I so want to be there. I’m sure you would too. So I suggest imagining yourself in this cartoon. Think of it as a Field of Dreams. And who knows. If you click your heels together like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz you might just not be in Kansas anymore.

P.S. I want to thank everyone for their heartwarming responses yesterday. You all are the best!

  1. As I was collecting my thoughts and belongings to head home after a very long day at work, I decided to check on what other comments had come from yesterdays work of art. And there was my uncle in a field of baseballs, and on top of that his son, my cousin, now resides in Kansas. It is just so freaking weird! Drew, have you met my uncle? Put a Portland Rockies hot on that guy and you would have him cold.

Looking forward to the start of baseball season and all the promise of another spring! Thanks for a few moments of heaven, if only in my mind.

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

Hey , you guys out in denver have some hope for the Rockies this year…cub fans are always full of hope while in KC, they are trying to force feed Slayor fans hope. They have been talking like the team will be competitive in ’12 or ’13 and then go and trade there best pitcher to the brewers.

It sounds like they have some good young players but a lot of the younger players they have had in the past seem to have peaked in the minors and when they get to the bigs just seem a half a step too slow and a beat behind every pitch. but hey- you gotta have hope( miles and miles and miles of hope) OK no more “damn yankees” references.

and who knows we may actually make the trip to KC for a game this year. I know we will be in denver and coors field, my favorite place to watch a game, again sometime.

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. Dear Drew,

I am so ready for baseball season. With the NFL still talking about a lockout. The NBA…..well if it doesn’t have to do with the Nuggets I don’t give a damn. The NHL even less to give a damn about. That leaves baseball.

For the record I loved the movie “Field of Dreams” Without a doubt my favorite part was the James Earl Jones speech near the end of the of the film. The “They will come Ray”. That speech pretty well sums up what baseball is. What it has always been about.

As much as I loved “Field of Dreams” though my favorite baseball movie of all was “A League of their own”. I am quite curious to know what the favorite baseball movies of the other writers to this blog are? What your favorite baseball movie is Drew?

Three plus years until I’m eligable for retirement. Three plus years until I can go down to AZ for Rockies spring training…..and the chance to visit my sister, brother, nieces and nephews as well.

    Be well everybody.

    All the best

  4. Sherri,

That’s too funny. You just never know when something you draw is going to strike people in an unusual way like that.

Glad it struck a funny bone in ya.

  5. Louis,

I almost called this cartoon “Field of Dreams”. My favorite baseball movie? Hmmm…I would have to say Bull Durham or the first Major League movie, which is the one that Charlie Sheen plays a complete nutcase. He was perfect for the part. You gotta do spring training. It’s a blast!

  6. Favorite baseball movie, I like the old ones. With Jimmy Stewart. Bull Durham, good, and that one with the character named Dixie Lee Box and the black guy that they said was from Argentina so the other players would feel more comfortable playing with him. What was the name of that one? The guy from CSI played the lead character. Who can help me with this?

  7. after probably the greatest offseason in Rockies history I couldnt be any more excited for baseball, remember Rocktober comes in the odd years!
