Will they or won’t they? That is the question. Or is it more Who cares if they do or Who cares if the don’t?

I would be firmly planted in that last group.

I’m still trying to get used to this blogging thing even after 2 and a half years into it. Not sure what works and what doesn’t and not sure what to share and what to leave out. Sometimes I’d like to talk about more than just sports. I know it’s all people are used to me being, a sports cartoonist, doing mostly local Colorado cartoons with the occasional (two times a week at least) national sports cartoon thrown in for good measure. But there is more to life for me than just sports cartoons.

Sometimes feel only like posting the cartoons. (this is sounding very Andy Rooneyish, isn’t it). I wish I could spend more time with your comments. But time is tough to come by these days with the freelance work I do.

So I guess for now the blog is what it is. I hope that is good enough for now.

  1. Dear Drew,

Starting off with a joke here. Maybe those Occupy Wall Street people should be protesting outside these NBA (ha) negotiations. I mean if the owners and players aren’t part of the 1% the OWS people are having a hissy fit about I don’t know who else would collectively qualify.

    Now to be more serious.

I’m like you. I don’t CARE if the NBA plays this season. They’re starting to remind me of an old saying,”What if they gave a war and nobody came?” I just don’t care enough about the NBA even with the Nuggets to give a darn. Both sides are playing the role of Nero while the NBA itself is burning to the ground.

On a side note I do hope to see you this saturday. I will try very hard to be there. I am scheduled for dialysis in the early morning and I pray it won’t take so much out of me that i can’t attend. I really want to finally meet you face to face. I also admit I hope to be lucky enough to get one of those Karlis “fork field goal” prints. You know how for years it was always my favorite Litton ‘toon which only this year was replaced by the drawing of the father/son at a baseball game with the fireworks going off.

If it makes you feel better I still don’t get this blogging thing too. (another joke incoming) I’m so technologically prehistoric that to me a RAM is someone who plays for CSU, a megabyte is what I take when eating a bologna sandwich, and full capacity means I ate too much.

    Anyway be well Drew,

    All the best

  2. Good Morning from Omaha-

Do they still play basketball on a professional level? NBA- I have lived over 20 years without watching a NBA game and can go to my grave without seeing another one. Over paid, over privileged and over hyped. Enough!

Drew, this is your corner of the world. You can make of it what you want. I enjoy your work and tend to agree with your opinions and when I don’t- I let you know.

Sports, politics, societal ill’s, flu shots, the weather- this blog is your canvas and you are the artist- go to town, let it out. If you hit some bumps in the road- regroup and start again. Thats why they put erasers on pencils- to correct mistakes. You’ll never know if you don’t try.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. I favor protesting the BCS system…except I’d call it Occupy Herbstreit.

As for the NBA lockout, I’m not hurting. I have NFL, EPL and Hockey.

  4. Drew–

Re: your blog… if there’s something that you REALLY want to try, give it a go. The readers/audience might surprise you. Based on the comments, they’re an erudite bunch. 🙂

As for the NBA, couldn’t care less. The only potential downside I can see about no NBA games is that more reality TV might take its place. Yuk.

  5. As I noted during the NFL lockout this summer, the real losers are those who depend on the revenues created by the games. Here in San Antonio, it’s estimated that each game brings in about $1 million or more in local revenue and spending: from the hotels that house the visiting teams; the employees that work the concession stands at the AT&T Center; the cops who work on their own time to provide security (and earn extra money); the local vendors and bars that depend on the games to get customers.

I don’t care much for the college game (football or basketball), but considering what’s going on in the country with the Occupy movement, you would think that the pro guys would get the message that fighting over money doesn’t play well with the public at the moment.

  6. I love the David Stern drawing! That said, I love the NBA and want it back ASAP. Honestly, they are arguing over 2% of revenue, which is only like $100 mil. That’s like nothing to them when split between 30 owners/450 players. I honestly think they are only fighting for pride at this point.
