The NFL Draft

Uncategorized

Normally I’m all fired up about the NFL draft, but I have to admit, this year just doesn’t feel the same. Even though the Broncos have the #2 pick overall, the NFL lockout thing has taken the thrill out of it to some degree.

What do you think? Are you excited about the draft? Are you going to watch?

The deadline for the caption contest is Thursday by 5.p.m mountain time. Get those entries in!

  1. NFL Draft? – Who cares about over paid players getting reinforcements.

NBA Playoffs – Why not just pick the Two teams the Commisioner wants in the finals and forget about playing all the 8 (5 players + 3 officials) against 5 other players deem to be league losers by My Stern.

Bring on the only honest sport in recent times – Baseball !!! The players have cleaned up a majority of thier acts and the Umpires have a harder time influencing the out come of the game. A warm afternoon in the sun with a hot dog and cold beer. What a life!

  2. The lockout WAS over. The arbitration judge ruled in favor of the players and ordered the lockout ended.

The League, however, have appealed and will continue the lockout.

    What?

I’m not a Law School Grad, but I thought the purpose of arbitration was for a neutral third party to break an impasse by deciding in favor of one of the two sides, thus allowing life/work/sports to continue. What’s the point if you’re just going to appeal the decision?

  3. Good Morning from Omaha,

Wow that judge up in Minnesota not only said end the lock out…she followed up by saying No to the request for a stay to her ruling while the NFL appeals it to the 8th circuit. that is not only a no but a HELL NO!

and Goodel has burned some bridges he had been building with his “employees” (players) with some of his comments about what they were trying to accomplish with the lockout.

Whatever happens, there is going to be some tension beyond the normal management/union back biting. As for as the draft you Bronco’s get the number 2 pick and old woodrow at the denver “past” newspaper is all afire over a cornerback from LSU to be bookends with champ bailey.

the chiefs, who knows, but they are talking about a receiver to take some pressure off Bowe the clown. and don’t forget the draft starts tonight and if I remember correctly, runs through saturday? A good time will be had by all.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  4. GMFO-

only in Nebraska…at 6:07 a.m. one of the breaking news stories is about people being all a twitter about a change in the Huskers football uniforms? The news is running pictures of the new uniforms without the numbers on the shoulders…I guess all of are priorities are now straight.

what a bunch of, as bugs bunny used to say, “Maroons!” the season doesn’t start for another 4 months and everyone is running around with their hair on fire about the uniforms the huskers will wear?

  5. Dear Drew,

I wish I could say something witty about your cartoon because I definatly enjoyed it. However the Nuggets loss seems to be what has been weighing on my mind this a.m. for some reason.

I look at the Nuggets performances this series with Oklahoma City and I can only compare them to the character of Maxwell Smart (played by Don Adams) in the old TV series “Get Smart”. with the players as Maxwell Smart going,”Missed it by THAT MUCH!”

  6. Usually I watch with much interest. Not this year. Maybe since the weather is supposed to be so nice today I will work on my garden tonight rather than watching the draft.

  7. Drew–

I have a BIG “meh” about the NFL draft. Don’t even talk about stuff like that to me until I know that there will be a season this year. Otherwise, it’s a load of baloney.

Got a laugh from Gene’s comment about the “Denver Past”. That reminded me of the names I used to call that paper when I lived in Colorado.

  8. Dear Drew,

Saw the first hour of the draft. Glad Bronco’s went with defense with their first pick. Now maybe its just me but they could have thrown a dart at the possible draftee’s and come up with someone who is better than what they’ve got right now (except Bailey and Durmiville).

    Still I’m happy

    All the best

  9. If I didn’t know better, Drew, I’d ask you what you were doing in Saint Paul this week! It felt like it was that windy up here. Goodell probably could have been blown away by natural forces, and not just the courtroom rulings. lol I’m sure he is spending some of his time with his old college buddy (and head of the Metropolitan Sport Commission), Ted Mondale (son of former VP, Walter Mondale), about the Viking Stadium issue.

I don’t even know why the league is holding a draft when there isn’t the assurance of there actually being a football season. It simply doesn’t make any sense to me. I can’t get excited about football right now, because of the uncertainty that exists.

I love this cartoon, Drew. Spot on, as usual my friend!
