A Rockies Mound Conversation

Uncategorized

One of my favorite sports movies was Bull Durham. So when this months Rockies magazine was looking for a way to express fan appreciation, I arrived at this. Wordier than normal, but a fun way to tweak a fun piece of movie dialogue. Hope you like it. How about you? Any favorite sports movies?

  1. Well, this will come as a shock to none of my friends, but “Rudy” gets aired at my house every year when college football opens. (-:

I’ve also been a huge fan of “The Natural” (it’s Randy Newman’s soundtrack that just does it for me all the time), and “Remember the Titans.”

However; when it comes to comedic sports movies, nothing does better than “Major League.”

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

while there are a lot of good sports movies everyone seems to miss “brian’s song”. It had a young james caan and billy d williams in it and it was about a chicago bears full back brian piccolo and his battle with cancer.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. Love the comic, went to the Rockies vs Brewers game and got coupons as fan appreciation day, wow thanks. I have always enjoyed watching ‘the sandlot.’

  4. Hi Guys and Gals, Great movie recollections. I did enjoy Brians Song, Gene. I had almost forgot that one. But, man, it’s an emotional movie. “Major League” was good too. I’ve only seen “Rudy” once. I’d need a second viewing. I liked “Glory Road” because of the UTEP/TWC connection. We lived just down the street from Don Haskins growing up. It wasn’t accurate exactly but hey, that’s Hollywood. Here’s one I haven’t seen on here yet and I loved this one too…”Hoosiers”. Great movie! And did anyone see “61”?

  5. Thought 61 was really good! The old Jimmy Stewart as Monty(?) Stratton and Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig, two of the best movies. Anybody seen the HBO special on Jeter and 3000? Whatever you think of that guy, he’s good for the game, And so smart.

  6. And there was another movie with the guy from CSI Las Vegas, can’t think of the name. There was a female character named Dixie Lee Box, a black player that they had to say was from Argentina, it was set in the era when black players still caused much rucus. I think the dude from CSI and Dixie got married on the ball field. Anybody remember this one?

  7. GMFO-

the movie came out in the mid 60’s and it was one of the first movies that made my second brother and me cry. Remember the titans- absolutely great- it captured the times when I was in high school and especially the music. The natural, of course and yes sandlot. You should check out The rookie. Its a good second story of a second chance.
