Armadillos and Updates

Uncategorized

The Beagle has landed in the land of Armadillos, otherwise known as Texas. Still getting settled in and getting used to the surroundings and the, shall we say, rather warm climate.

The journey down here from Colorado was eventful, to say the least. Too much to go into here but it was a fantastic trip.

I worked on the road, drawing from the Guadalupe County Communicator Offices in Santa Rosa, New Mexico and hotel rooms along the way. Deadlines never cease, thank God. So here are a few pieces that I’m finally getting around to posting.

I’ll venture out tonight to a local Dallas sports bar to try and catch the Broncos first preseason game. I’ll post some kind of update on that on Friday. Might not be a cartoon but then again, ya never know.

  1. Good Olympics toons! Gotta have one for Women’s Soccer revenge on Japan…

Where in Dallas did you land? I lived in Grand Prairie for three years, and liked the area. Also love Ft. Worth, and I’ll be in Frisco in a few weeks.

You might have a bit of a culture shock – there’s better baseball there, the Cowboys coverage isn’t quite as oppressive as Denver’s wall-to-wall Bronco stalking, and high school football is surreal in those parts. Oh, and restaurants: What you call “Good Times”, they call “Whataburger”, and what you call “Del Taco”, they call “Taco Bueno”. Find a Pollo Campero at all costs.

  2. Draw a cartoon about Missy Franklin and her four golds. Another Colorado swimmer (like Amy Van Dyken) who did good.

  3. Welcome back! We’ve missed you – it just isn’t the same without your cartoons to keep me smiling!

Stay cool down there – it’s NOT a “dry heat”!

  4. So many stories coming out of the Olympics, as usual. I haven’t been keeping up on a lot of the Olympic action – mostly because I don’t have a television. Thanks to modern technology, however, I have been following Missy Franklin’s story in Denver, and some of the Minnesota athletes, here in the Twin Cities.

My true excitement lies in the start of training camp and everything Denver Broncos – including last night’s win over the Bears. You might as well have drawn me in the Rover, Drew. I am giddy as a school girl when it comes to the start of football! I could feel the bloody coursing through my veins at the thought of Payton taking that first snap throughout the day yesterday. Then again, through the miracle of modern technology, I was able to listen to the game on 850KOA radio. It is going to be an exciting season for the Broncos this year, as long as they keep everyone healthy and on their best behavior. My dad has already predicted that they will be going to the playoffs, and possibly the Super Bowl. Can’t argue with a 90 year old man, too much. Right?

  5. Great to hear that you made it ok and I hope your air conditioning works. Ready for my fave Texas joke?

Why did the chicken cross the road? To show the armadillo that it could be done safely.
