Buzzsaw

That’s what the Broncos ran into when they met the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. Strange how different the Broncos have looked since the bye week. Just as we thought the Broncos have hit a pretty steep part of their schedule. Before the season began everyone guessed they wouldn’t fare well against these types of smash mouth defenses. But after the 6-0 start I think we all started drinking the Kool-aid. They’ll have a breather against the Redskins (though the way they are playing nothing is a given) and then will face a hungry Chargers team that is starting to smell blood. Orton was awful, the running game was non-existence, the defense struggled and will they please send Mitch Berger back where he came from. Clearly there’s trouble in Paradise.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

Hey the steelers are the champs and a yardstick to measure yourself with in terms of where you want to be.

Its Mickey D’s first year and they are still 6-2. there are a lot of teams that really would love to be 6-2.

go out and take care of business against the ‘skins, beat the chargers collective bolts and win what you can and lose if you must. sounds like the columnist at least want the team to play well, even in the losses. And really that is all a writer and fan can ask, in the first year.

by the way, if you need another running back, L J from KC is available.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. I officially threw up my kool-aid last night and this morning!!! What a joke last night! We didnt even stay close with the Steelers. The Steelers drive right after we scored on the fumble was a similar reminder of what we experienced from last years defense. It was a real downer to see Mile High with all those Steelers fans there yesterday too! Its a shame when a home game looks like an away game! I over estimated the Broncos, I really dont want to go to the playoffs and be embarassed like that, because thats exactly what will happen. Orton needs to step off and let Brandstater or Sims take the reigns because he looks confused and scared back there! I need to throw up again…..

  3. To all Kool-aid drinkers,

The Broncos are a very good overall team and have a lot of pride. No one is doubting that. But there is a GLARING problem. They cannot throw a pass for more than 20 yards, and they have no running game!! Consequently, they cannot stretch the field. Both Baltimore and Pittsburg sat on the short routes and made a shambles of our offensive line with blitz packages. Orton is a good journyman quarterback but will never make a good team great. He is a short range accurate pocket passer and looks like a scared deer when flushed out of the pocket. The line is being manhandled. Do not blame the defense. They gave up 14 points last night and 7 of them were on the last drive when they had been on the field most of the second half. When you play a team like Pitt, they are going to have some long drives and score some points on ANY defense. You can’t give them an extra 14 points, and not give your defense a blow with some time off while you drive the ball for 6-8 minutes. One run (for no gain)and two passes equal 2 minutes off the clock and the defense is out there again. It’s just the way it is. Good teams are going to see the last two Broncos games and follow the plan.

McD will eventually draft or go free agency to get what he needs. He’s a winner and we will be very glad he’s on our side. 6-0 spoiled us. We are not in a position to be a successful playoff team and if we do make it, we will not advance against good teams THIS YEAR. So we can look to the future and enjoy a winning season this year as a sign of future success. But we need a QB that can throw a 40 yard strike on the run to a sprinting wideout, and a line that can open some running lanes. We will eventually get them I’m sure.

  4. sigh….oh what a night.

I know we are still 6-2 that just doesn’t help at the moment. It feels

like that maybe the best games are behind us. I thought the Broncos

were better than they played in the last 2 games. I just don’t know what to think now. The Boltz are chomping at the bit to play us again.

There is still alot of football left to play, so lets hope that the

Broncos can pull themselves together and finish what they started.

Gonna be a looooonnnnnngggg season if they don’t.

  5. Last night looked a lot like the offense from the first three games. Offense couldn’t do ANYTHING unless the D set them up with great field position. The difference now is, the team is facing much better opposition and there’s 8 games worth of tape to pick apart. The offense will continue to struggle against defenses that can pressure Orton into dumb plays and the defense will have to hold opposing teams to under 14 to keep the game close.

  6. Well… now is when we see what this team is *REALLY* made of. They have beaten really good teams (Dallas, New England, Cincy) but they got caught w/ two really good defenses – both coming off of bye weeks. Orton might not actually be the answer (shocking, I know.)

But – we are 1/2 way through the season with only 2 losses. If they can duplicate that in the 2nd half of the season, 12-4 should be good enough for playoffs. And we all know ANYTHING can happen in the playoffs. Do I think Denver’s going to the superbowl? No, but stranger things have happened.

    Go Broncos!!

  7. Good morning Drew –

As I look at my black & yellow decorated desk at work (this is what I get for talking smack to a Steelers fan in the row next over), I have to say that the defense played well in the first half. However; for a team that was famous at the beginning of the season for making really amazing halftime adjustments, it looks like the Broncos made all the wrong ones in the locker room.

I’ll still take a 6-2 record, and as long as we stay ahead of the Chargers, it’ll be fine.
