Old Noodle Arm.

Kyle Orton started his preseason with the Broncos prone to turnovers. For the first six games he appeared to be a changed man. But you can’t change a guy whose arm strength best resembles that of a pee-wee quarterback. This is the Kyle Orton that those in Chicago endured. The Josh McDaniel’s offense is designed to the dink and dunk, but you still have to have a quarterback who can threaten with throwing the ball down field. One play sticks with me from the Steelers game. Orton flushed from the pocket rolls right and gives it his all to get the ball to a wide receiver who has just finished a 10 yard out route. The ball finally made it to him on the third hop. That’s not something you can coach. That’s the difference between a good NFL quarterback and a mediocre one.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

I guess I missed the 3 hop pass. A writer at the post suggests starting Simms, who according to him has a stronger arm and can escape the rush.

Orton was running to his right and throwing across his body back to the left off his back foot. give that a try in your backyard and then add 4 angry men chasing you.

I wouldn’t want to have to make that decision and I am glad I am not Mickey D.

Pittsburgh is a very good team. I don’t know about Baltimore, they were beaten soundly by Cincinnati, who were beaten by the bronco’s.

Maybe the bronco’s need to “man up” and start punching back and not turn into a bunch of debutantes out there on the field.

L J is still available, if you want a running back or a ticket taker at the stadium.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. I watched my cousin’s 11 year old team this weekend. They threw the same look in route almost every play. There were 6+ interceptions (I lost count) and 3 of them were returned for touchdowns. I think they only completed 2 or 3 passes all day. And when they got the ball back the next time, what play did they run? The same look in pass that the qb couldn’t complete because he was rushed and knocked down almost every play. I got the same feeling watching the Broncos game Monday. What summed it up was Palamalu coming up from his saftey spot to cover Royal on the line and then Orton still throwing the look in route that almost hit Troy in the chest. Seems like Josh never changed his game plan at half time and Pitt did. Very dissapointing game to watch.

  3. I like to express my thanks to you Drew for making this subject of quaterback an issue, I knew that it was not just me watching that excuse of an offense on the field monday night(what a debacle). The Orten thing is just not working for us! I agree with a particular sports deejay in the afternoons from 1-4 on The Fan, that alot of the play calling from McDaniels has some of the fault for Monday but not all. I did see some short passes not even come close to recievers and overthrown balls going to the Steelers defense. Look, lets face it Kyle Orton does not do well under pressure, he buckles! GET THAT GUY SOME WATER BEFORE HE FAINTS!!!

My vote is “Brandstater 4 Mayor!”

  4. I’ll settle for Brandstater for quarterback! At least then we can blame it on his inexperience.

  5. Hi Drew —

I’m afraid the Broncos are stuck with Orton this season. He has sucked the past two games, wasn’t that impressive in the first 3 games, but he did put together a decent half in the Dallas game and looked very good against NE. Honestly the real problem is what do we do with him once the season ends. His contract is up and Cassel’s deal as set the bar for starting QBs at 60M. Does anyone really want to pay Orton that kind of money? Best thing to happen to the organization is for Orton to tank and make t clear he will not be around next year.

  6. Hah!!!! Thanks for Cutler and his cannon. When the Bears get him a line to protect him he will be worth the money and first round picks. He is already making a bad team look better. Orton is the same as the last ton of guys the Bears have run under center. Average at best. Shame because he sems like a nice guy, he’ll just never be more than a college QB.

  7. Cutler is a moron and will never be a team leader Jorge. NEVER! Cutler is about Cutler and now that the Chicago press is starting to come down on Cutlers bad attitude, well…. Its all downhill from there! The ghost of Ryan Leaf is going to emerge once again and hopfully sooner than later.

  8. Love the one hand behind the back of the seven year old. Thanks for keeping a smile on our faces through thick and thin.

  9. I wish that McDaniels would at least look at Sims he have to be better then Orton!!!! I am getting sick of the dink and dunk we have Royal and Marshall and they can go deep be nice if we would throw to them deep just once in a while!!!!
