Elway’s Dilemma

Uncategorized

Hot off the presses this cartoon is from the February issue of Mile High Sports Magazine available now throughout the metro area.

A few notes:

* After cranking out a full page of Super Bowl cartoons for ESPN.com, as well as a “Lombardi Goes Home” cartoon for United Features, I’m taking Wednesday as a day to catch my breath. I actually have several freelance jobs I have to do on Tuesday, so I’ll be working on those as well. So it’s sorta a no rest for the weary day.

* Thanks to everyone who helped push yesterday’s blog post to new highs on page views. When you share content like so many of you did it helps so much.

* Also Thanks for your feedback on the image sizes. I’ll keep the theme as is.

* But I’ll keep adding new content, including stuff in the sidebars. Today you’ll find a sports headline feed that fits, and , just in time for March Madness, a free hoops game!

Have fun. See ya Thursday morning with a new toon!

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

first thanks for the weather, denver- its -10 here this morning and its supposed to get up to +4. supposed to be cold like that until the weekend then its going to be in the 30’s.

No doubt elway has his work cut out for him. They have some of the pieces in place but need 3-4 players on both sides of the ball. Remember it all starts with the lines offense and defense.

If the quarterback isn’t comfortable in the pocket the receivers don’t get balls they can catch, runners can’t find the seams they need to get to a thousand yards and the whole offense falls apart.

the defense is the same way- those d lineman have to stuff the holes, engage the o line and someone has to beat their man on everyplay- stalemates are not good enough. Every player has to beat their counter part on every play…that should be the goal- win your match up on every play and win the game!

Its easy to say but the teams that win in the NFL make fewer mental mistakes and beat their man on almost every play.

Set the standards high and expect the players to reach them! Its going to be a scavenger hunt for elway and the crew, but they can do it!

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Great cartoon Drew! For those who think that Elway is going to be able to solve all of the Broncos problems right away – it simply isn’t going to happen. I remain hopeful that he and Coach Fox can get the job done. Bronco Nation needs to practice patience, as it could take awhile to repair the damage and create a winning team.

  3. Dear Drew,

This cartoon reminded me of a pair of cartoons you drew for the Rocky. One was when Arapahoe Park first opened yet they were still doing construction on it. You had jockey’s riding wooden horses. Classic.

The other cartoon this makes me think of is the Denver Gold one where Red Miller and the owner of the Gold (forgot the name) weren’t going anywhere because there were no horses and the owner was telling Red Miller he wanted some action..

All I can say in conclusion is if he is able to do for the Bronco’s what he did for the Colorado Crush of Arena Football fame then we’ll be back before you know it.

Outside thought here. Its a bit of a shame that with all that has happened in sports in general that I can’t recall anybody mentioning Shannon Sharpe’s election into the Hall of Fame (and I include myself in that) Congrats Shannon you definatly earned and deserved the honor.

    All the best

    Louis

  4. Louis,

I don’t recall what I drew yesterday. How do you remember stuff I did 20 years ago. You’re amazing.

    Drew
