Free fallin’

Uncategorized

I have quite a few friends who are die-hard Red Sox fans. This malady is not quite as dangerous as, let’s say, being a Cubs fan is, or as concerning as being a CornHuskers fan can be, but it’s still pretty scary stuff. That said the Red Sox are in a free fall that is sending it’s fan base to the brink of turning into Yankees fans. OK. It’s not that bad. But close.

  1. I think the degree of fanaticism also depends on how close you are to the home ballpark. My brother-in-law is a diehard Red Sox fan, but when I asked him about the nosedive, he just shrugged. I’m a diehard Broncos fan, but being here in Texas, I’m not as closely wrapped up in their current freefall as I think I would be if I lived in Colorado. (Yes, I’d rather be in Colorado (to paraphrase John Denver), but San Antonio isn’t too bad of a place to live, if you have to live in Texas.)

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

It sounds like the Sox fans are coming out of the wood work- like cub fans did in the late ’80’s when WGN fed the nation the games with Harry Carray and his schtick. a trip to wrigley is something I have been told is something everyone should make an effort to make.

I wonder how many sox fans are truly boston fans are just band wagon jumpers. There are a lot of true fans of the red sox- bless them- and some johnny come lately type fans who are eager to follow a winner.

sounds like rockie fans that showed up during the amazing roctober a few years back. where are they now?

strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  3. Not sure this is as monumental a collapse as what the Mets went through in ’07 (There are two sides to Rocktober), but it has been fun to watch!

  4. Here’s hoping that the Rays implode tonight. No one west of Atlanta wants Tampa to win the Series, much less make the playoffs. If Peter Gammons had his way, he’d have two teams in Tampa and none in Seattle.

A little late, but I had to share:

I sent this cartoon to a friend who works in NYC. Her response: “Adorable I sent it to our office baseball nut. You could hear him laughing down the hall!”
