“I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.” – Mark Twain

Because of the historic news we received last night I felt it was neither the time nor the place for a cartoon. Instead it is a time to remember those whose lives were lost and forever changed on the morning of September 11, 2001. It’s a time to remember those servicemen and servicewomen who so unselfishly serve our country and put their own lives on the line to protect us. For me, personally, it is a time to remember my own father who bravely served our country aboard the U.S.S. Pennsylvania during World War II.

So, Today, in his honor I’ll be wearing this hat which belonged to him in honor of his service and those who have given so much for the freedoms we enjoy. Feel free to leave your thoughts on this enormous moment in American history.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

9-11 changed our world. Bin laden was the impetus behind what happened or at least the money man. Some great kids have been lost in this war on terrorism, in addition to the people killed that september morning. These deaths re affirms the fact that American’s, by nature, are a different kind of person. And that these citizens who are now soldiers are truly another “greatest generation.”

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. Amen!! Our service men and women continue to stand through the adversity and put their lives in harms way to reaffirm the belief that we live in the greatest nation in the world. Here is to hope that Bin Laden’s death will radiate throughout the world that “You don’t mess with the U.S.”

  3. I am sad there is no cartoon but I am extremely happy we have exacted revenge on Osama. I am going to Ground Zero today to pay tribute to the troops and the lives that were lost on 9/11.

  4. Drew–

I honestly never thought that this day would arrive, and that sometime in the future, I’d be reading how Osama bin Laden died of natural causes. I do not mourn that man’s passing.

However, al Qaeda is far from over. My thoughts are with the folks on the front lines… they are going to be among the first to bear the brunt of whatever will come after this.

  5. Drew, Today may not be a day for funny cartoon but maybe a statement along the lines of the one you did about Len Bias. It was/is a very poignant cartoon.

  6. Dear Drew,

I hope what I’m about to say is not taken as blasphamy (hopefully spelled right). i mean this with total sincerity.

In sports teams talk about winning “The Big One”. Most times a championship, other times a win against a hated rival. Well today thanks to those wonderful souls in the military we have definatly won “The Big One”.

If my statement offended anybody I apologize for it was not meant to offend.

    All the best

    Louis

  7. It is a day when one person can dominate over everything: TV, work, twitter and even sporting events. Yeah the thought of one person not our own president was on the bottom line on ESPN and thoughts in the Philly game. Yet we have a lot of pride as Americans. Let us all stand united one and all thankful for what we have to live–freedom

Hope you have a nice day and hope tomorrow is better. I could use a Rockies win 🙂
