NFL Replacement Refs

Uncategorized

The NFL’s weekend was a debacle of horrid calls and total confusion by the replacement refs who are clearly out of their league. And the NFL front office could care less. Because…all together now “It’s All About the Money”! Until it effects the NFL’s bottom line we will have endure the ineptness that was the focal point of the second week of the 2012 season.

  1. Good Morning from OMaha,

I watched some of the bronco’s/ falcons game last night and really its the first time I thought the replacement officials were over matched.

Like they said during the game, the players have learned how these guys work and have adjusted their game accordingly.

Things have not gotten that far out of control that the league is feeling any pressure to settle with the regular officials and until someone gets “hurt” either physically or by blown calls costing a game the league will not change its stance.

In general the replacements have been overly cautious in making calls relying on replay to be sure they get the call correct. I guess its better to error on that side. The regular officials have one thing that these replacements have not earned and that is the respect of the players, coaches and fans.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. I did not watch the first part of last nights game, yet, but it seems to me in general the replacements are not over rulling calls on the field. I wouldn’t bother throwing the red flag unless it was like in the 49er game on Sunday, get you a little longer time out and maybe you could get lucky and not loose a time out.

  3. The problem with this situation is that people won’t stop watching, even if the officiating is poor, so the NFL isn’t hurt. If anything, this adds more drama.

  4. Drew:

My 14 year old son reminded me of a cartoon out of your first book about the need for full time officials. You drew that what, 20-25 years ago and here we are today dealing with the same things still. What a mess.

BTW – Brilliant cartoon both today and the one from years ago!

Sometimes I have a hard time deciding what is more brilliant, your drawings or your concepts themselves. Either way, you are the best!

  5. Next time a regular ref blows a call I won’t be as harsh since now know how much worse it CAN be.
