Playoffs = Layoffs. It’s that time of year most every NFL coach fears at some point in their careers. A time when his employment status hangs in the balance. For some, it means starting over somewhere else, or occasionally a trip to the broadcast booth. Rarely does it mean actually having to find a “real” job. Still, it can’t be fun moving from city to city knowing the one fact that is true for every coach. You’re hired to get fired. No matter who you are. Even Vince Lombardi ended up on his keister.

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

Coaches know the fame really well. Fox has landed on his feet in Denver and while nothing is guaranteed, with Tebow blocking the slings and arrows for him and vice versa next year will be even more fun. Kansas city might keep crennel around as head coach or might not… but there is so much money involved in the decision made by the teams that results had better follow or that door will continue to spin.

the thing seems to be that they almost never bring in new blood. it sounds like jeff fischer is headed to miami and little josh might end up in KC as a OC for the chiefs. The new blood in the coaching circles don’t get much of a chance to prove their mettle in the league. win now or be shown the door. once again- its about the big money and results. I guess that is life in general. the days of having a job for life are a long lost dream. IF that time ever existed.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  2. First of all, it looks like you freshened things up here, on your blog, Drew! I like it! Very clean and crisp! Is that Shanahan riding behind Tebow in your header? 😉

Looks like first-year coach, Leslie Frazier, will keep his job up here in Minnesota – even after such a dismal season. I bet that there will be a change in the defensive coordinator. Plus…there are something like 14 free agents on the players’ roster. Oh, and the Vikings are still trying to work out a stadium deal. It is going to be an interesting off-season.

I am so glad to be a Bronco fan!

  3. Hey Drew,

Just a thought on the new look. I like it, except I preferred when I could look at all of the recent ‘toons simply by scrolling. I’d prefer if you went back to that. Other than that, looks nice.

  4. The new layout looks good.

The coaches are just like the players, positive performance means you get to keep your job: negative performance means you lose you job. The more money that is involved, the more the pressure to succeed.
