Dispatches from the Drawing Board:

  • Here’s the cartoon I did for the Chicago Tribune regarding the whole Saints “BountyGate” debacle. This one was personally painful for me considering I root for the Saints on Sundays in the fall.
  • I’m not done on this subject. I’ll draw another one today for Universal Press (my syndicate) and I want to show you one I didn’t finish for the Tribune before I changed directions on it. So be sure to toon back in throughout the day for more stuff.
  • I’m looking into a service where you can get my cartoons via e-mail every time I post one. I’ll let you know. I do enjoy you stopping by here on the blog though. We’ve really become a cool little community here. I rather like that. Which reminds me…

  1. Good Morning from Omaha,

foot ball is a sport that cheers the big hit. the oooh and ahhs at the replays of the big hits arek what made espn’s “prime time” the show to watch on sunday evenings after the games were through.

on monday night they feature “jacked up”. they show 5 of the biggest hits of the previous day and then holler he got “jacked up!!!!” and now the NFL is offended that some team has a bounty system for hits? oh the humanity!!!!

there is nothing to keep a player who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars from hitting a player who makes millions of dollars so hard the million dollar player is carted off the field. whether from jealousy or scorn over the colleges they attended nothing is going to keep that from happening.

the “bounty” system is wrong. greg williams is a jerk and always has been but whether you pay the guys to put people out of the game or you do so because you are that type of person who vents “frustrations’ on the field.

the extra twist of the ankle or punch to the nether regions in the pile are wrong as is the bounty system but boys and girls its football and it is a violent game.

don’t hand me the croc tears NFL-there are too many broken bodies suing the league about the after effects of the game being played as the game is supposed to be played. the cumulative effect of one more big hit being the straw that breaks the camels back is like another drip of water in the pacific ocean .

I have been wrong before, many times, and the cheap shot has no place in the game. the guy who does that deserves more than just a fine. the suspension seemed to straighten Suh out for a while. these guys could be just overgrown children trying to relive themselves being the king of the playground.

just a quick note- i start out patient p/t today! balance is getting “better”. the vision thing comes and goes.( thank goodness for the little red lines of spell check)

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best!

  2. Gene, do they expect the vision to clear up in time? As to Greg Williams, I would be willing to bet he isn’t the only one. Do these “rewards” come from a system of fines as well? Players pay into it for things and get paid for certain things? What are the players saying about all this? Is is just ESPN and us fans who are up in arms?

  3. Drew–

Having rooted for the Saints as Superbowl underdogs in the past, I feel a definite queasy sinking in my stomach as I hear more about this story. A bounty system? It cheapens the victories they have achieved.

Not that the Saints’ coach cares. He has his ring now, doesn’t he?
