Something totally different

Uncategorized

This was a cartoon I recently did for the Guadalupe County Communicator in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. They are having a bit of a problem there with a growing feral pig population that is causing all kinds of havoc. I thought I’d post it here for the fun of it. I hope you don’t mind taking a break a break from sports for one day.

I just wasn’t up for another NFL cartoon. I’ll be back with a new sports cartoon late Wednesday or early Thursday morning. In the meantime, let me know what’s on your mind.

I really want to share with you some of the ideas I’m cooking up for a new web comic. The question is whether I should post a few things about it here or on one of my other blogs. It isn’t sports related so it would be a little out of place here but it might be fun to get your feedback during the process before launch.

  1. I said once and I will say it again… this is probably my alltime favorite DrewToon- I think it has to do with the green chile but Im not sure!

  2. Drew, you have a God given talent to entertain people with your toons. I find them to be thoroughly enjoyable no matter what the subject matter is. Years ago I used to go directly to the comics section of the newspaper. Now I go to my FB or Google homepage for your toon of the day. I find that something is missing from my day when there is no toon from you. “A day without Drew is like a day without sunshine”,(now where have I heard that before) LOL.

Your toons are as entertaining as any I used to read by Charles Schulz or Mort Walker. I would LOVE to see a comic by you.

    YOU GO GUY!

    Best Regards, Ricky H. 🙂

  3. Good Morning from Omaha,

I thought this cartoon was really funny. Being a guy who grew up mostly in smallish cities I can’t imagine wild hogs roaming around, especially after being on my grand dads farm in north missouri and seeing what messes hogs can be.

About 8 months ago they claimed there were over 60,000 feral cats and over 50,000 wild dogs in Omaha. If that were the case there would be stray animals all over the place. They made that announcement in conjunction with humane societies opening of a low priced spay or neuter clinic. In the meantime you would think the town would be awash in cats and dogs but at least there are no wild hogs wondering around Omaha.

I have never been too santa rosa, NM but honestly it sounds like a beautiful and fun place.

If you are interested in getting ideas or sharing ideas for a web comic you sites have a lot of creative people who visit them and they might strike the right note that would pull inspiration from the recesses of your mind.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  4. Drew,

    I love the cartoon!

As far as where to share your web comic ideas, just let me know where you post it – I’ll be there!

  5. Feral Hogs are the worst! They’re every bit as destructive as your toon suggests. There’s a cash bounty on them here in Pennsylvania, and I’m sure they’re not alone. When the new Governor tried to cut the program out to balance the state budget, he was flooded with calls.

As for suggestions: Ohio State’s Football Scandal? The overzealous BYU Honor Board? NCAA Conference Tournaments? Rapids Title Defense starting next weekend? Serena Williams in the Hospital?

  6. Drew–

I had to smile after reading today’s cartoon. Trying to explain what green chili (the dish) is to folks out here is like trying to bathe a cat… doesn’t work out most of the time. It’s something I try to bring back every time I visit Colorado.

Wild pigs, on the other hand (like Badger said) is something that folks in the rural areas are all too familiar with. MEAN and destructive.

As for a new web comic… love the idea. I have discovered some of my favorite web comics via crossovers in other features I regularly read.

  7. Drew,

It is nice to see you aim your pen at something outside of our little Denver Universe.

Regarding the web comic idea… while it might not be sport related, posting it here or very near by would be a good start. I like what Ed Stein has done on his site, EdSteinInk.com. He has combined his editorial and Freshly Squeezed.

  8. Drew channeling Stephen King! Your sense of humor is the best, so anything you do, sports or not, is of interest to me. Felicia, I was just discussing with someone yesterday that green chile is not a concept understood in the Portland area.

  9. James,

Thanks. I really had fun with this one. It’s my favorite of all the ones I’ve done for Santa Rosa.

  10. Ricky,

I’m totally overwhelmed by your comments. Thank you so much. It always gives me such encouragement when you take the time to send well wishes like that. Thank you, Sir.

  11. Gene,

I rest easy tonight knowing the streets of Omaha are free from those vagrant pesky feral hawgs. It sounds like you have some up close and personal knowledge of just how yucky they really are.

Sant Rosa is a wonderful place just southeast of Santa Fe. It’s very much a small town with a very big heart.

  12. Badger,

You too have encountered the dreaded and vagrant pesky feral hawgs. Nasty buggers they are. The ones in Santa Rosa have an especially nasty chewing tobacco habit. A real mess.

We’re getting close to the tourney now. And the NFL is showing some signs of hope so who knows. Thanks for the topics. They might just come in handy.

  13. Felicia,

I’m astonished at how many of you have encountered the pesky vagrant feral hawgs. They really are a menace.

Thanks for the support on the web comic. It’s something I have to do for my soul. I hope people like it. It’s full of of all that life is about. I just hope everyone can see a part of themselves in it.

  14. WM,

Great suggestion. I’m sure I’ll update the comics here as well as house them on their own site. You’ll understand when it launches why the site for this comic is part of the experience of the story and setting.

  15. Sherri,

Interesting you would bring up Stephen King. He plays a part in the web comic. Seriously.

  16. For Everyone,

So sorry I was late getting to your comments. I had a three deadline day on Wednesday. Just now getting to your thoughts…at 12:20 am on Thursday. There might be days like that when I’m a little late getting to them, but know they mean the world to me.

  17. Sherri–

Small world! I’m hoping to make a batch of green chile tonight, provided we have all the fixins in the pantry…
