  1. Drew,

So many SBs have had only the commercials going for them to keep the public watching. This game, on paper, looks to be great for both the football and commercials. I am truly looking forward to the entire event… too bad about the next day being Monday.

  2. Good Morning from Omaha,

I thought I heard that some of the bigger companies aren’t going to be participants in the commercial faire of the super bowl- its costing too much- which might be true.

Remember last year when everyone got their shorts bunched up over a pro life commercial featuring t-bow and his mom? It was probably one of the nicest commercials ever seen during a super bowl. This year there is supposedly another controversial commercial, but I can’t remember about what. Everyone is just waiting to be offended by something and that is just SAD.

Hopefully the best part of the game this year will be the game.

  3. Dear Drew,

For the record I think Pittsburgh will win. What I really want though is for the game to not be a blowout. That way ultimatly the fans are the winners no matter which team wins.

As I recall last years commercials were a bit of a disappointment. There were no inspiring moments like the Budweiser Frogs/Horses, or “Where’s the Beef”. On the whole they were pretty bland. So if the game does turn out to be a snoozer let me at least look forward to seeing some funny commercials to make watching the game tolerable.

    All the best

  4. Morning from MN –

I’m in the “just get to the commercials” crowd, but I also understand that I can just watch them on the internet at a later point, so watching the “Super”Bowl is a pointless thing for me now. I’m not certain if the Broncos or Vikings were in it, if I’d be interested in watching more than highlights the next day.

This all being said, I guess I “want” the Packers. If not for anything else, to annoy the Vikings fanatics around here.

  5. Hi Drew – Looking forward to the commercials this year. Last year we were traveling back from New Mexico from a soccer tournament and had to listen to the Super Bowl on the radio–It’s just not the same. Hope there are some cute E-Baby commercials this year, I just love that little kid. Stay warm and have a nice day

  6. Mike,

I agree, I think this game looks to be a great one. I’m just hoping we have an exciting game, without any blowouts, maybe even overtime. As far as the commercials go, I miss Frank and Louie’s Budweiser act. They were hilarious.

  7. Gene,

I haven’t heard about the upcoming controversial commercial, and though I did a cartoon about the Tebow ad, I never actually saw it.

I think we’ve become as a whole, very on edge, and somewhat snarky society always looking for the dark side of thing. we seek to tear down, not build up. It’s one of the things that is hurting America right now. To borrow a phrase from Rodney King “I wish we could all just get along”

  8. Louis,

I think we must both be fans of the infamous Budweiser frogs and Lizards commercials. I also loved the Tabasco ad when the mosquito blows up after biting the guy who is eating Pizza doused in Tabasco sauce. I like laughter in my commercials. Lots of it.

As for the game…I’m not sure who to root for. I like Aaron Rogers and have several friends who are die hard Packers fans. But having personally encountered thousands of “Cheeseheads” in San Diego when the Broncos played the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII, they are scary people. I still have night mares.

I also have several friends who are Steelers fans. So I’m going to sit back and enjoy the festivities. Less stressful that way.

  9. Brad,

I like your spunk. For some odd reason Denver has thousands of Vikings fans. During my past book signings I always tried to do a sketch in each book for people. Next to the Broncos and the Rockies, the Vikings was the most requested personalized sketch. I can’t root for any team Bret Favre just played on. Maybe that’s why I’m liking Aaron Rogers. He’s the Anti-Favre.

  10. Cindy,

I can’t imagine listening to the super bowl on the radio. It kind of needs the visuals to seem “Super”. I’m hoping for funny, entertaining football and hard hitting, smashmouth commercials. No wait. It’s the other way around isn’t it?

  11. GMFO-

the t-bow commercial featured his mom talking about how she made a choice to keep her baby- instead of having an abortion (out of wedlock I think) and talking about how well her choice turned out.

There is supposedly another anti abortion ad coming up this sunday…. I don’t know I heard about it somewhere last week.

    bud-WEIS- er!

enjoy the cold out there in Denver- son said you guys did not get much snow.

Strive for excellence, nothing but your best.

  12. Greetings from balmy, sunny, 40 degree Portland. I hope for a competitive game, one that showcases the game of football. Gives us the things we watch the game for, besides seeing our favorite team win. And funny, entertaining commercials that don’t preach, that sell me products not tell me how I should live my life. Well, I guess that’s not much different from selling me deodorant.

  13. This year’s “Controversial Ad” was supposed to be by Ashley Madison, a website that specializes in facilitating affairs for unhappily married people. The Tebow ad last year wasn’t pulled, but some of the “pro-life” content was toned down.

I’d rather not see political content creep into sporting events (especially the Super Bowl…come on! The elections aren’t until November!), but unless you’re breaking the law, if you pony up the money for an ad, they should have to run it.

And to answer the Viking Fans of Denver mystery: A lot of Northern Plains people move to Denver, and the Dakotas are full of Minnesota fans in all sports.

  14. Badger, there seem to be many of them in the Northwest as well. It would seem that they prefer a bit “warmer” climate. I agree with you, it would be nice if the Super Bowl was left to pure entertainment. But as you say, we do live in free capitalistic society, but we can always mute the TV.
